Job Description
The Library and Student Support Specialist serves to assist and empower students in reaching their academic and personal goals by supporting access to library resources, research guidance, and integrated learning support services. This role contributes to a welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered environment that promotes information literacy, critical thinking, and independent learning. By working collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff, the position supports initiatives that enhance student engagement, retention and overall success.
Salary Range:
$20.76 - $27.53 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of customer service practices and principles sufficient to identify each customer’s needs, meet quality standards for services, that result in customer satisfaction.
- Ability to explain policies and procedures in a clear, concise, and professional manner to both internal and external customers.
- Skill in customer service sufficient to provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence.
- Knowledge of math sufficient to maintain complete and accurate financial records and balance and resolve discrepancies
- Skill in word processing sufficient to prepare, edit, and finalize emails, memos, reports, and/or other documents and types of written communication that are grammatically correct, in proper format, and free of spelling errors.
- Ability to accurately input, verify, and edit electronic data.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualification
- Two years of experience in an administrative support role, or two years of experience working in an academic library
- Broad based education sufficient to assist instructors and students with research projects.
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, education, or the humanities
- Experience and/or working knowledge of library Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system and electronic library systems.
- Experience with library operations including cataloging, process acquisitions of materials, and locating existing materials.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new and evolving library and computer technologies.
Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor vehicle Records check.

Range of Pay: $20.76 - $27.53 per hour; pay within this range dependent on education and work experience and internal equity.
