Cyber Security Analyst

About This Opportunity

The Cyber Security Analyst supports the Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC) in managing daily operational security activities. This role is responsible for triaging alerts and job requests, escalating and investigating incidents, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the University’s cyber security posture. Working within a collaborative security environment, the position plays a key role in protecting systems, networks and data across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitor, triage and respond to security alerts, incidents and service requests, supporting investigation, escalation and resolution activities
  • Conduct vulnerability analysis and contribute to the development, evaluation and improvement of security tools, processes and controls
  • Provide technical advice on cyber security matters and support security-related projects and initiatives
  • Maintain current knowledge of security threats, technologies and standards, contributing to operational reporting, planning and continuous improvement activities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A degree in IT or related discipline (or equivalent combination of experience and education), ideally with industry certification in security, systems administration, networking or related fields
  • At least two years’ IT industry experience, including experience in IT security or a strong demonstrated interest in information security
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking principles, Linux operating systems (preferably RHEL and/or Debian), and system administration or shell scripting toolsets
  • Experience supporting security incident response, vulnerability management or security monitoring activities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess threats and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes
  • An organised and proactive approach, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
