Supplemental Information

Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Criminology and Criminal Justice program has a roughly 60-year history, emerging out of the Center for the Study of Crime, Delinquency, and Corrections and earlier degree programs in Administration of Justice. Since then, more than 6,000 students have earned undergraduate or graduate degrees in the field from the university and the program has grown to include BA (face-to-face and online), MA, and PhD degree offerings as well as collaborative efforts with the School of Law (joint-BA/JD) and School of Forestry (Conservation Law Enforcement certificate). Today, the program is part of the School of Justice and Public Safety, a unit formed in 2019 bringing together longstanding academic degree programs in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, and Public Safety Management. The School joined the College of Health and Human Sciences the next year, becoming one of six member schools of the largest college on the SIU campus. Promising new faculty in the College of Health and Human Sciences are offered competitive startup packages, including graduate/undergraduate assistant support, course releases, and research support designed to jump-start scholarship. A new faculty member will join a research-active program currently composed of 11 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty members and 7 non-tenure track faculty members.
