Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Stony Brook University's Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology seeks applicants to teach large and small lecture courses in the areas of Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Genetics beginning Fall 2026. This full-time, non-tenure track appointment will be made at the Lecturer level. The scope of these courses requires an applicant with significant knowledge and experience in both content and pedagogy. The size of these courses requires a significant online element; hence the preferred qualifications include experience with educational learning management systems, particularly BrightSpace, the LMS used at Stony Brook University. Salary range is $65,000-$75,000.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: A PhD degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or a closely related field. Two years' experience teaching undergraduate biochemistry, cell biology or molecular biology.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching an undergraduate molecular biology or biochemistry course. Experience teaching large (200 or more) in-person and/or online courses. Experience using educational learning management systems (e.g. BrightSpace). Experience using virtual conference technology (e.g., Zoom). Experience working with undergraduate and/or graduate teaching assistants. Enthusiasm for innovative and inclusive teaching approaches in large introductory biology courses. Knowledge of and/or experience implementing collaborative learning. A strong commitment to equity and diversity in undergraduate education.
Detailed Position Description: Lecturer
- Teach two to three courses per semester during the academic year.
- There is an option to teach during the summer with additional compensation.
