Students applying to or currently enrolled in the M.A. in Communication Studies, within the Department of Communication & Media at California State University, San Bernardino, may be eligible to apply for Teaching Associate position each year during their term of study on the master's degree program. Department of Communication & Media TAs (Teaching Associates) teach COMM 1006 Oral Communication courses, following a successful application process, which involves a formal interview, and after training during the summer sessions (typically in July). The TAs are the instructor of record for their sections of COMM 1006 Oral Communication, and as such are responsible for all aspects of the preparation of the course.

JOB SUMMARY
Teaching Associates will teach COMM 1006 Oral Communication.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Position involves all aspects of being the instructor of record for COMM 1006 Oral Communication courses: preparing a syllabus and assignments, creating lessons and class activities, attending classes weekly for the duration of the semester, grading assignments, holding weekly office hours, and responding to student communication in a timely manner. Teaching Associates will also attend a pre-teaching orientation held before classes begin, typically in July each year.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a student in the M.A. in Communication Studies program at CSUSB.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Be enrolled in good standing as a classified graduate student in the M.A. in Communication Studies program, or have been accepted to the program with a formal letter of acceptance in hand.
- Maintain academic eligibility throughout the employment period (enrolled, with 3.5 GPA or higher).
- Be available to teach courses at time assigned (MW or TR mornings or afternoons).
- Accept responsibility and have the ability to relate well to others.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
