About the opportunity

The Deputy Registrar and Executive Director (Students) is a senior leadership position reporting directly to the Academic Registrar. This role is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and continuous improvement of the Student Services domain within the Division of the Academic Registrar including: student enquiries, enrolment and credit management, student records, fees, scholarships, examinations, special consideration, graduations and research student management. This position plays a crucial role in fostering a student-centered approach, promoting service innovation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Working collaboratively with executive leaders, faculties, and external partners, this role enhances the student experience and supports academic excellence across the University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction for the Student Services pillar, aligning its goals with the Education Portfolio's objectives and fostering a high-performance culture focused on student success.
  • Exercise delegated authority to make significant autonomous decisions, ensuring alignment across internal and external policies and practices.
  • Oversee a broad range of Registrar functions, consulting with the Academic Registrar as needed.
  • Lead optimization of business processes for quality, efficiency, and student satisfaction, ensuring effective resolution of issues and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with higher education regulations, standards, and governance frameworks, conducting internal audits and reviews as required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners, representing the Academic Registrar in committees and working groups.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Student team, promoting a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee financial management within the work area, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial sustainability.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and well-being, ensuring adherence to workplace health and safety policies.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects and activities relevant to the role's key accountabilities.

About you

Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead large teams and manage complex projects in a dynamic environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of higher education policies, regulations, and governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and service excellenceStrong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership across Faculties and Professional Service Units
  • Outstanding professional judgement to make significant, independent decisions while ensuring alignment with policies and practices.
  • Excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes and effectively deliver results.

Experience:

  • Extensive leadership experience in higher education administration, with a strong track record of managing student services at scale
  • Demonstrated experience in exercising delegations of authority and making timely decisions in relation to student and administration matters within a complex regulatory environment
  • Experience in business optimisation, transformation, and innovation within a large, complex organisation
  • Proven management experience at a senior level; together with flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and environments and, when necessary, navigating through ambiguity
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues.
  • Financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure.
  • Administrative experience in a tertiary organisation, working knowledge of academic institutions, structures and the higher education sector.
