Job Summary / Basic Function:
Job Summary: The DevOps Engineer is responsible for performing moderately complex computer programming tasks and coordinating programming functions in a shared services environment. This position supports Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange, and Lamar State College Port Arthur, reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services. This role requires the ability to understand complex business and technical processes, develop effective programmatic solutions, and present those solutions in a user-friendly manner using industry-standard technologies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop web-based server-side code using: .NET, PHP, C#, JSON
- Build and maintain RESTful and SOAP-based APIs for internal and external integrations
- Integrate APIs with ERP systems and other institutional platforms
- Maintain and support backend web services and internal applications
- Develop and test public-facing websites and tools
- Administer SharePoint and Microsoft Teams environments
- Manage and support various instances of IIS (Internet Information Services)
- Coordinate and collaborate with the webmaster on web content and design standards
- Work closely with the infrastructure team to ensure the scalability, availability, and performance of on-premises and cloud-based systems
- Implement security best practices, monitor for vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with higher education standards (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA, PCI, etc.)
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for APIs, integrations, infrastructure configurations, scripts, and processes
- Stay current with evolving DevOps practices, development frameworks, and cybersecurity requirements
- Perform related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Proven experience in web-based programming and API development
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution with major coursework in management information systems, computer science, or a related field
- Knowledge of programming principles, application development, and modern web technologies
- Proficiency in contemporary programming languages and frameworks
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years of experience in a programming or DevOps role
- Experience working with enterprise-level APIs, including authentication and data modeling
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash)

75,000
