Columbia Global is seeking a Digital & Multimedia Communications Officer (DMCO) to shape and grow our digital presence. The role is ideal for a creative professional with strong design sensibility, technical expertise, and a passion for storytelling. The DMCO will be responsible for producing memorable and impactful digital content across web, social media, and multimedia platforms that communicates Columbia Global’s mission and amplifies the reach of our initiatives worldwide.

You will play a central role in defining and safeguarding our online voice, engaging diverse audiences, and ensuring our digital platforms reflect the innovation and global impact of Columbia University.

As a Digital & Multimedia Communications Officer, you will help shape Columbia Global’s digital identity and storytelling; work on high profile projects with global impact; collaborate with diverse teams across Columbia University and international partners; and gain exposure to cutting-edge ideas and initiatives addressing pressing global challenges.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Director, Communications, the DMCO will:

  • Manage and build out Columbia Global’s digital properties, ensuring functionality, accessibility, and engaging content.
  • Oversee website upgrades, redesigns, and analytics tracking; identify opportunities to increase visibility and traffic.
  • Support Columbia Global’s social media strategy, managing accounts, growing audiences, and driving engagement.
  • Design branded and digital assets using software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other tools.
  • Create and optimize content using SEO best practices and keyword research.
  • Produce multimedia content (graphics, infographics, video, photography) for events, campaigns, and online distribution.
  • Collaborate with Columbia University’s central communications team to share content across university and external channels.
  • Develop digital partnerships and co-branded content opportunities to amplify Columbia Global’s reach.
  • Support the development and promotion of online platforms that will serve as spaces for increased engagement, innovative thinking, and strategic planning.
  • Support Columbia Global Centers in managing their social media accounts.
  • Support the dissemination and promotion of internal and external activities and events.
  • Provide input into marketing and campaign strategies and plans, ensuring alignment with digital best practices.
  • Analyze performance metrics and prepare bi-annual reports with recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay current with digital media trends and incorporate innovative approaches into content strategies.
  • Maintain Columbia Global’s photo and video database, coordinate with external photographers and videographers.
  • Leverage Columbia University’s resources to develop high impact digital content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent required. Minimum four years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong background in graphic design.
  • Experience with video and photography production, editing and archiving.
  • Proven track record in designing and implementing online marketing campaigns.
  • Advanced knowledge of email distribution and analytics platforms (e.g., MailChimp).
  • Experience with content management systems.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva and InDesign.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Global or cross-cultural experience is a plus.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
