Summary of Position
The Director of the Instructional Excellence & Development provides strategic leadership in advancing inclusive, equity-minded, and evidence-based teaching practices that support student learning, faculty growth, and institutional success. The Director oversees the design, delivery, and assessment of faculty and instructor development that promotes teaching excellence across all modalities, informed by principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility (DEIBA), disaggregated student outcome data, and emerging instructional technologies in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Instructional Excellence & Technology and Academic Deans. This position supports teaching excellence across all modalities and fosters a culture of continuous instructional improvement aligned with institutional goals.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of adult learning theories (andragogy), inclusive pedagogy, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Expertise in learner-centered instructional design, including outcomes-based approaches and project-based approaches.
- Ability to design and deliver effective, equity-minded professional development for faculty and instructors across instructional modalities.
- Skilled in using disaggregated data to assess and improve teaching and learning practices.
- Familiarity supporting faculty and instructor use of instructional technologies and strategies for online, hybrid, and flexible learning environments.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring and supporting faculty at all career stages.
- Capacity to lead projects aligned with institutional goals and accreditation needs.
- Ability to interpret and use disaggregated student data to inform instructional improvement and equity-minded teaching practices.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to build trust and foster innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant education and experience demonstrated through one of the following:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five years of relevant experience in postsecondary education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, or related field.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution and three years of relevant experience in postsecondary education, curriculum and instruction, instructional design, or related field.
- Experience in teaching and faculty development in higher education, with a strong foundation in inclusive and equity-centered practices.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating faculty development related to inclusive teaching, instructional design, and student-centered learning in a variety of modalities.
- Strong facilitation, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to culturally responsive education and student-centered teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree from an accredited institution.
- Project management experience in higher education or professional learning contexts.
- Experience supporting or implementing high-impact practices, competency-based education (CBE), or outcomes-based curriculum models.
- Experience managing or supporting grant-funded faculty development or instructional innovation initiatives.
- Experience developing open education resources (OER) in curriculum.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Starting Salary
Starting salary range for this position is $76,818 - $84,500 annually, commensurate with education and experience. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.
