The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to students' intellectual and personal growth. The Director of Accessibility Services provides overall leadership and management of the Center for Accessibility Services at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs or their designee, the Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This role includes developing and implementing policies and procedures to support students with disabilities, collaborating with campus partners to promote inclusive learning environments, and facilitating access to all college programs, services, and facilities.
This Director will:
- Manage daily operations of the Office of Accessibility, including supervising staff, managing the budget, developing programs, and providing drop-in support services.
- Coordinate accommodations and support services including note-taking assistance, exam proctoring, academic testing modifications, assistive technology implementation, interpreting/transcribing services, and provision of readers and scribes. Maintain a resource hub for students, faculty, and staff.
- Review disability documentation, determine eligibility, and create individualized accommodation plans that support academic success.
- Serve as the college liaison to the University and external agencies to strengthen services for students with disabilities.
- Identify and manage grant opportunities that support accessibility programs.
- Stay up to date on laws and best practices related to accessibility in higher education.
- Monitor student progress and offer support for academic, social, or transition-related challenges.
- Help plan and participate in major college events such as orientation, registration, commencement, and other student success initiatives.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM: Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
PREFERRED
- Master’s degree in social work, student personnel administration, counseling, educational psychology, special education, higher education administration, health and recreation, or a related field preferred.
- At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or rehabilitation agencies.
- Knowledge of providing services to college students in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and related policies.
- Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with attention to detail and proven leadership. Supervisory experience of professional staff preferred.
- Successful record of working with and implementing programs and services for students with disabilities within a diverse student population.
- Must be a creative, dynamic professional with strong judgment and the ability to work independently while providing courteous, accurate service to students, visitors, and the campus community.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, project management, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt plans as needed, and make data-informed decisions.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and complex matters with discretion, and a deep understanding of the diverse cultural, social, and educational needs of today’s student population.
- Skilled at building and maintaining effective, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, families, university colleagues, and community partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW: Provides administrative oversight, visionary leadership and broad direction for all aspects of a unit supporting students with special needs. Develops a comprehensive program serving students with disabilities to ensure their retention and academic success. Serves as the primary resource related to campus student disability issues and works collaboratively to identify, facilitate, and implement a vast array of student support services. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Manages program and administrative support staff, including professionals such as Sign Language Interpreters and Disability Accommodations specialists. Prepares long- and short-range plans and budgets, and monitors and reports performance related to goals. Develops and implements program assessment plan to evaluate program delivery of services, student learning outcomes, and student satisfaction. Generates campus-wide programming for students with disabilities and to increase sensitivity throughout the college community. May manage other student affairs programs serving a variety of student communities. Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Salary range is $132,248 - $150,497; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
