Job Description

The Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for enhancing College of Law brand identity and communicating those values to potential students, peer institutions, and the legal community, works closely and advises senior administrators as the communications partner on numerous strategic initiatives, and manages the College's creative team. The Director sets and guides strategies for internal and external communications including brand development, website content and development, media and public relations, social media relations, crisis communications, and other communications initiatives designed to increase the regional and national visibility/prominence of Stetson University College of Law.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises marketing creative team including media relations, social media, web and print design, as well as web content and development.
  • Oversees daily production of print and electronic communications materials, marketing, and public relations campaigns, which includes writing copy for brochures, articles, fliers, advertising, internal and external communications. Manages the printing and distribution of those materials.
  • Produces reports including metrics of progress.
  • Updates crisis communications plan in partnership with other campus offices.
  • Manages all Admissions and brand advertising for College of Law, including negotiating contracts and completing contract agreement process.
  • Advertising fulfillment: supervises or produces advertising including traditional, digital, and social, but not limited to print, online, radio, TV, direct mail, social media and other forms.
  • Writes and supervises design and copy of all major publications including Admissions, and Alumni Relations, and other program marketing materials (i.e., view-book, prospectus, direct mail, fundraising, etc.).
  • Creates, manages, and tracks marketing budgets for the Communications Office and seven (7) other College of Law offices.
  • Develops strategic advertising and marketing campaigns.
  • Oversees brand continuity with the University.
  • Oversees photography for marketing efforts.
  • Responsible for producing Admissions videos, Hall of Fame videos, and others.Speech writing when needed for special events.
  • Develop and edit external publications from concept to completion, including writing, editing, photography, creative directives, printing, and mail supervision.
  • Creative Director of the Stetson Lawyer magazine.
  • Support special events, community relations, and other activities.
  • Committee work, as assigned.
  • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

This position requires:

  • BA/BS degree required from an accredited college or university with a degree in mass communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years' experience required in managing a marketing or communications department with experience in: advertising/ marketing, (print and digital) public relations, publication creation and distribution, photography, film and video production, web development and social media management.
  • University/college communications management experience strongly preferred, and strategic planning experience is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills, and experience with Basecamp or a similar platform.
  • Ability to embrace and articulate the mission, core values, and aspirations of the College of Law and the University.
  • Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience
  • Prior budgeting experience required, handling multiple budgets, a plus.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and technology skills.
  • High level of judgment, discretion and confidentiality required.
  • Excellent proofreading and editing skills.
  • Establish and maintain positive and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Required to serve as college spokesperson or develop emergency response messages as needed.
  • Night and weekend work may be required and working a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to travel, as needed.

Computer Skills:

MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Microsoft Teams. Computer design and layout supervision. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign and Photoshop a plus. Video or film production experience, a plus. Project management software a plus.

Work Conditions:

Work duties performed primarily in temperature-controlled office, with frequent customer interaction. Required to have community engagement responsibilities when needed. Lifting occasionally up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025. Due to the recent federally-mandated increased financial expense, the university is not in a position to absorb this significantly increased cost of sponsorship for new H-1B petitions at this time.
