Position Purpose: The Director of Digital Marketing and Experience serves as a key leader for digital marketing and communications strategy for the Geisel School of Medicine and the Office of Medical and Healthcare Advancement, driving a range of marketing strategies, communications, and experiences. The position is responsible for providing strategic oversight and hands-on, tactical precision, spanning the audience journey across a diversity of platforms. The position serves as the office's lead strategist for establishing and tracking digital marketing goals, outcomes, and performance, developing and executing campaigns, oversight of digital properties, and the integration of content to produce a cohesive, compelling audience experience. The Director balances data-driven thinking with an appreciation for the values of humanity, community, and innovation that are central to the organization's culture. The position requires a combination of strategic planning and high-level orientation, with a hands-on, tactical focus.

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with exceptional ability to establish a vision for strategic transformation, while also providing hands-on tactical contributions rooted in a depth of expertise.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in the digital marketing space, with expertise in digital marketing, user experience strategy, paid/organic social, content management systems & strategy, audience segmentation and/or marketing automation.
  • Proven track record of driving digital transformation, either within an organizational environment, or in an agency context.
  • Expertise as a manager of individuals and teams, including demonstrated capability to forge relationships centered on collaboration and partnership.
  • Demonstrated track record of forging partnerships across organizational structures, e.g. communications, information technology, compliance, events.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for fundamentals of digital accessibility and compliance.
  • Proven track record of relationship building and collaboration with internal and external partners. Ability to serve as an ambassador of the school and the advancement office as needed.
  • Exceptional editorial and content development editing skills, creativity, and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex medical and scientific subjects for lay audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of donor and audience needs and demonstrated ability to advance fundraising goals and messages through specific communications plans.
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to meet deadlines while successfully managing a high-volume workload and prioritizing among multiple projects.
  • Experience in leading and participating in collaborative teams.
  • Brings a sense of joy to the workplace.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and highly confidential information with discretion and judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with a commitment to respectful communication and collaboration within a diverse community.

Experience: Seven years of experience in digital communications/marketing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: Experience in a healthcare, research, or higher education environment. Experience with Drupal, WordPress, or open-source CMSs. Experience with marketing automation systems. Experience with proprietary enterprise CRM/database systems.
  • Education: Master's degree in a related field.

Description:

  • Digital Strategy & Experience: Works with MHA and Geisel Communications to develop an impactful, innovative digital marketing and communications program, spanning media, platforms, and audiences. Leads digital experience across a range of platforms, systems, and tools, in partnership with colleagues in Medical and Healthcare Advancement, the Geisel School of Medicine, and Dartmouth Health. Forges and sustains collaborative processes to advance strategic priorities, share insights, and forge relationships with prospective and current students, faculty, staff, donors, alumni, and friends. Based on a strong understanding of high-level organizational goals, develops and implements best-of-industry digital marketing strategies and tactics to convey innovation and impact, strengthening enrollment, engagement, the research enterprise, and a culture of philanthropy for the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth Health. Develops strategies to disseminate, activate, and amplify content across a diversity of platforms, including web, paid and organic social, video, and proprietary content management systems, among others. Works with creative, content, and video production colleagues to align content and creative with digital strategy. Leads audience/message segmentation, targeting, and retargeting to deliver the right message, to the right audience, at the right moment to inspire that audience to action. Partners with admissions and enrollment management colleagues to develop best-of-industry solutions to drive programmatic enrollment growth. (55%)
  • Team leadership: Builds and leads a high-performing Digital team. Establishes and sustains a team culture of collaboration, accountability, and product quality. Manages individual and team goals, workflow, and outcomes. Provides opportunities for professional growth, development, and support. Provides high-level management of the team's work, fostering a spirit of collaboration and forging cohesion across numerous deliverables. Serves as a liaison with communications colleagues spanning Dartmouth and Dartmouth Health. Convenes and leads internal and cross-departmental working groups to accomplish program goals. (30%)
  • Partnerships and Relationship Management: Establishes and maintains highly-productive, collaborative working relationships with institutional leaders, department chairs, center and program leaders, faculty, administrators, and staff, developing sources of information and collaborating across organizational lines to work toward common goals. Exercising a high degree of autonomy and judgement, establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with communications colleagues across Dartmouth, its professional schools, and Dartmouth Health. Acts as a resource for the school and for Medical and Healthcare Advancement staff, serving as a communications leader, consultant, and coach, empowering staff through content strategies that are both centrally curated and individually-led. Works with communications and marketing leaders across Dartmouth and Dartmouth Health to build new, unified paradigms for powerful storytelling, including content curation and editorial collaboration. Work to infuse philanthropy news, stories, and video in a variety of institutional communications channels, with an emphasis on informing, cultivating, motivating, and stewarding development constituencies. (15%)
