Job Summary

Disability Services (DS) at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Director of Disability Services and Testing Center!

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor within the Division of Student Life, the Director of Disability Services and the Student Testing Center provides strategic leadership for the University's accommodation and access services for students with disabilities. The Director oversees DS and the Student Testing Center (STC), which together support students with disabilities through disability determination, accommodation coordination, and accessible testing services.

The Director serves as the University's primary subject matter expert on access for students with disabilities within the academic environment, interpreting state and federal disability laws, including evolving regulatory guidance and case law. The role provides consultation to academic and administrative leaders regarding institutional responsibilities and effective accommodation practices.

Working with the Assistant Vice Chancellor, the Dean of Students Office, and leaders across Student Life and Academic Affairs, the Director advances a coordinated campus approach to accessibility that promotes student success, equitable participation, and inclusive learning environments. The Director builds strong partnerships with department chairs, deans, faculty, and campus administrators to support shared responsibility for accessibility and continuous improvement in accommodation implementation.

The Director works towards institutional strategy through policy development, assessment, and engagement with national professional organizations and peer institutions, and serves as an advisor to university leadership on emerging practices in access for students with disabilities.

This position supervises Disability Services and the Student Testing Center and collaborates closely with the ADA Compliance Office and the Digital Accessibility Office to ensure alignment of accommodation processes, accessibility initiatives, and institutional responsibilities.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Leadership and Administration

• Provide strategic leadership for DS and the STC, ensuring services align with institutional priorities related to student success, equity, and access.
• Lead and supervise professional staff responsible for disability determination, operational services, accommodation coordination, and accommodated testing services.
• Guide the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and service models related to student accommodations and access services.
• Provide consultation and guidance to academic administrators, faculty, and department chairs regarding student accommodation implementation, academic requirements, and disability-related access considerations.
• Facilitate dialogue and problem solving when complex accommodation matters arise involving students and campus partners, including academic units and operational areas such as housing, dining, and parking.
• Interpret and apply federal and state disability laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and applicable state laws, advising university leadership on institutional responsibilities and emerging legal expectations.
• Respond to internal and external inquiries, reviews, or investigations related to student accommodation practices and disability access including managing the internal Grievance Process.
• Promote proactive accessibility practices and work towards campus-wide accessibility initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity to support students with disabilities.
• Lead innovation and continuous improvement in DS and STC operations, including accommodation processes, accommodated testing services, and related service delivery models.
• Oversee unit resources, including budget planning and allocation, to support effective service delivery.
• Oversee coordination of assistive technology and accessible instructional materials with campus partners.

Campus Partnerships and Institutional Engagement

• Establish and sustain strategic partnerships with deans, associate deans, department chairs, faculty, and academic support units to promote effective student accommodation implementation and accessible instructional practices.
• Partner with faculty, department chairs, and academic leadership to promote shared understanding of disability accommodations, accessible instructional practices, and institutional responsibilities related to student access.
• Work alongside campus partners to resolve complex student accommodation matters and support resolution through consultation and shared problem solving.
• Serve as a visible campus leader on disability access, providing training, guidance, and consultation to staff, faculty, and campus leadership.
• Represent Student Life on campus committees, working groups, and initiatives related to student success, accessibility, and inclusive learning environments.
• Collaborate with partners across Student Life, Academic Affairs, the ADA Compliance Office, and the Digital Accessibility Office to advance a coordinated institutional approach to accessibility.
• Maintain national engagement through professional organizations, presentations, and collaborations that inform standard methodologies in disability access within higher education.
• Collaborate with campus partners to manage resources and space supporting accommodated testing services.
• Promote welcoming and accessible campus environments supporting belonging and full participation for students with disabilities.

Assessment and Planning Strategically

• Lead assessment efforts related to DS and the STC to inform long-term planning, operational improvement, and resource planning.
• Monitor trends in accommodation demand, service utilization, and testing volume to guide staffing models and operational planning.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of services in supporting student persistence, academic engagement, and success.
• Partner with institutional data and assessment offices to develop reports and analyses that inform decision making and improvement.
• Monitor emerging trends in disability access, higher education policy, and student needs to inform institutional planning and program development.
• Ensure adherence to applicable laws, university policies, and operational standards related to accommodation practices and accessibility.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments related to disability access and collaborate with university partners to assess potential institutional impacts.
• Be a designated Campus Security Authority (CSA) in accordance with the Clery Act.
• Attend conferences and professional development opportunities to remain current with evolving guidelines.
• Contribute to institutional conversations and initiatives that advance accessibility, student success, and welcoming learning environments.
• Support the Division of Student Life and the University's mission, vision, and strategic priorities through engagement in cross-functional initiatives.

What You Should Know

This role is able to work in a hybrid work modality, with 3-5 days a week required to be in person. This role has an anticipated work schedule of Monday - Friday during regular business hours. Some evenings and weekends will be required.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $120,000 - $129,825 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Life division guidelines.

What We Require

• A master's degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Counseling or related field.
• 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in disability services, accessibility, student affairs, or a related field.
• 2 years of supervisory experience.
• Experience collaborating with students, student leadership, faculty, and campus partners in higher education environments.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal or procedural information to diverse audiences.

What We Would Like You to Have

• Doctorate degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field.
• Increasingly responsible experience within disability services or accessibility in higher education.
• Experience managing professional staff, complex operations, and assessment initiatives.
• Demonstrated engagement with national professional organizations related to disability access.
• Experience advancing accessibility initiatives or inclusive design practices within higher education environments.
• Advanced experience with complex budgets and operations.
