Director of Field Experiences
Position Purpose: Lead, direct and assess the work of Field Experiences, coordinate with local education providers and with other MSUM colleges to provide quality teacher education field placements aligned with state requirements for licensure. Ensure that field experience data, supervisor qualifications, and clinical partnership documentation meet CAEP and PELSB accreditation standards and contribute to the unit's continuous improvement process.
Salary Range: $54,616 - $117,191 annually.
Responsibilities:
Responsibility 1: Program Leadership & Administration
- Provide leadership and oversight of field experiences for MSUM's CAEP- and PELSB-approved Teacher Education Unit by interpreting and applying accreditation, licensure, and institutional policies across diverse field sites, and by ensuring continuous compliance through collaboration with the Director of Teacher Education and active participation in MACTE.
Responsibility 2: Supervision & Coordination of Field Personnel
- Supervise and coordinate university supervisors and field liaisons by recruiting, hiring, training, and assigning workloads; ensuring compliance with PELSB Standard 15; maintaining accreditation ready documentation; and submitting Faculty Assignment Reports (FARs) to the Dean each semester.
Responsibility 3: Field Experiences Issue Resolution and Remediation
- Manage and resolve field experience issues by proactively mitigating crises with external partners, developing and implementing student remediation plans, conducting additional observations in consultation with cooperating teachers, and assuming direct supervision when intensified oversight is required.
Responsibility 4: Field Experience and Practicum Placement Coordination
- Coordinate and manage field experience and practicum placements by creating and overseeing student teaching and practicum assignments across licensure areas and delivery modalities; providing orientations, assigning supervision, and managing documentation; and cultivating regional P-12 partnerships through collaborative placement activities, surveys, reporting, and participation in inter institutional coordination efforts.
Responsibility 5: Accreditation Data Management and Reporting
- Manage and report accreditation data for field experiences by systematically collecting and maintaining placement and supervisor records; contributing required data to Title II, PERCA, and URCI reports; coordinating partner feedback analysis; and participating in unit level data reviews with the Director of Teacher Education to support CAEP, PELSB, and continuous program improvement reporting.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree with at least five years of K-12 teaching experience, including mentoring at least one (1) student teacher.
- Strong knowledge of K-12 school organizations, curricular structures, and educator role transitions.
- Experience supervising others and managing complex, confidential, and sensitive situations.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with faculty, students, administrators, colleagues, and program partners; understanding of diversity and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Knowledge of PELSB unit standards, licensure requirements, and experience with CAEP and or PELSB accreditation, including clinical partnerships and candidate progression documentation.
- Proficiency in using technology for multiple purposes.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a Placement Coordinator, Field Supervisor, Cooperating Teacher, or P-12 classroom teacher in local school districts.
- Experience serving in a building or district level administrative role.
- Knowledge of and experience with data management systems, including student level assessment platforms.
- Ability to generate innovative solutions to situations without precedent.
- Ability to make decisions that balance competing priorities and needs of various programs and stakeholders.
- Experience contributing to accreditation processes, program review, or compliance documentation.
