Position Summary:

UNC Greensboro athletics is seeking a Director of Broadcast and Live Production that will be responsible for managing all aspects of video operations to ensure the delivery of quality live streaming of video productions for ESPN broadcasts in collaboration with the Athletics External Relations team. The position will direct the broadcast by providing leadership and directing all activities and personnel engaged in operating, maintaining, and programming the audio and video systems within the sports arena for home athletic events while ensuring live video feed to ESPN remains uninterrupted. This position will serve as a liaison to The Southern Conference (SoCon) and ESPN to fulfill video requests used for broadcast and for distribution on various platforms including social media and on official athletics website. This position must ensure that all video productions adhere to rules and regulations as set forth by the SoCon, ESPN and UNC Greensboro athletics while also developing concepts and storylines for videos to be used at various UNCG athletic events. The position will work within the framework of the university’s and athletics department’s strategic plans to coordinate and stream selected UNCG home athletic events for multiple sports teams over the course of the athletic year as well as help provide video highlights with the Athletic Strategic Communications team. This position will focus on the live video production of UNCG’s home athletic events for multiple sports programs. This individual will help successfully integrate the UNCG athletic product into the ESPN+ platform and be the direct contact for live productions on all ESPN broadcasts. In addition, this position will assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications in directing all activities and personnel engaged in the creation of video content used in the development of marketing and promotional videos to be utilized via social media, digital media, official athletics website and various other avenues. This is a highly visible and responsible position that requires a detailed, creative thinking and technical decision-making individual who will work closely with partnering organizations and various outlets to enhance and promote the UNCG Athletics brand and programs. The Director of Broadcast and Live Production will conduct functional and operational testing procedures to ensure quality performance of broadcast and production equipment. This position will be held accountable to troubleshoot and resolve after-hours critical issues impacting the productions, on-air technical look, and/or overall performance of broadcast and production equipment and systems. The Director of Broadcast and Live Productions will assist in the management of the inventory of equipment used by the video production crew.

Minimum Qualifications:

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENCY AND ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE IN A BROADCAST TELEVISION, RADIO AND EMERGING MEDIA ENVIRONMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast or video production, communication, media, sport management, or a related field with at least one (1) year of experience in live video production.
  • At least two years of experience in athletic video production is required and preference will be given to candidates with professional or collegiate sports experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in written and oral communication skills is a prerequisite.
  • Experience working on the live production side of athletic broadcasts is required (Ross Xpression graphics, Ross Switchers & CG’s, Clearcom, 3-Play, audio equipment, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Or a Master’s degree.
  • Technical knowledge of video equipment is preferred.
  • Understanding of NCAA rules is desired.
  • Experience directing and producing live broadcasts is preferred.

Key Responsibility:

Manage digital network broadcast

Essential Tasks: The Director of Broadcast and Live production will be in charge of all ESPN+ live broadcasts from beginning to end. The Director of Broadcast and Live production will act as producer, director, and engineer of ESPN or corresponding platform to meet the contractual obligations of the department and/or SoCon broadcasts in the trailer. Other duties will include assisting in the development of video content for www.uncgspartans.com, including shooting, editing and producing features, recaps. The Director of Broadcast and Live production must be able to work numerous projects at one time and work on tight deadlines to get video on the website and social media in a timely manner.

Key Responsibility:

Supervision of broadcasting team

Essential Tasks: Supervise, teach and instruct a team of students, temporary/part-time staff, full-time UNCG Athletics staff and independent contractors to produce broadcasts for the athletic department. Provide supervision, scheduling, training and logistical support to student staff and contracted vendors where appropriate, to include, but not limited to, providing substantial input into the hiring, termination, or other changes of employment status of student support staff, as well as identification, selection, and payment of appropriate vendors related to area of assignment.

Key Responsibility:

Creative content production

Essential Tasks: Work closely with Creative Content Producer to produce videos that will assist in revenue generating and branding. The partnership will assist in the development of initiatives in online multimedia, i.e., previews, highlights, features, for use on the athletics website and social media platforms. Assist in the creative storytelling of the department with the Creative Content Producer by scripting video promotional materials, graphic design elements, etc., that assist with external operations of ticketing, marketing, fundraising, and overall.

Compliance

Essential Tasks: Work in compliance with NCAA, the Southern Conference, UNC Greensboro, and ESPN or corresponding platform to meet the contractual obligations of the department and/or SoCon to put out a product of integrity in accordance with the organizations.

Competencies:

Knowledge – Technical: Full knowledge of all media equipment and ability to utilize appropriate production and post-production techniques. Full knowledge of broadcast television, radio and emerging media production and postproduction technologies. (Advanced level)

Creativity: Ability to apply artistic techniques and talents in conjunction with a working technical knowledge of various broadcast television, radio and emerging media needed to produce programs. (Journey level)

Communication: Ability to explain and interpret comprehensive technical information and artistic and aesthetic concepts in unique situations to team members, management, clients/customers and the public. Ability to make recommendations as required and suggest and support alternative approaches. (Advanced level)

Teamwork: Ability to lead, offer guidance and manage team activities to achieve desired goals. (Advanced level)

Customer Service: Ability to cultivate and maintain client/customer relationships by selecting the most appropriate alternatives when responding to a request. (Journey level)
