About the Role
The Director of Strategy & Performance leads Swinburne’s enterprise-wide strategic capability, partnering with the Executive and portfolios across the University to drive clear, evidence-based decision making.
This role establishes a mature strategy function that brings rigour to problem definition, option analysis, and investment decisions, ensuring strategic coherence across major initiatives. The Director oversees business case development and strategic analysis to directly support Executive Group decision making.
The role also leads the enterprise Business Analyst pool, lifting strategic capability, decision quality, and consistency of approach across the University.
About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the Vice-Chancellor, Executive Group, and portfolio leaders, providing insight-driven guidance to enable high-impact strategic decisions and investment prioritisation.
- Provide executive-level advisory to portfolios through rigorous problem definition, strategic framing, and evidence-based analysis, supporting clear prioritisation, trade-off assessment, and identification of optimal strategic options.
- Lead the design and implementation of university-wide strategic methodologies—including strategic option evaluation, business case development, and benefits articulation—to strengthen decision quality and institutional outcomes.
- Manage and develop a high-performing team of Business Analysts and Senior Business Analysts, providing clear direction, professional standards, and quality assurance across strategic and complex initiatives.
- Foster commitment and shared ownership of strategic goals by building trust, facilitating dialogue, and embedding accountability across leadership teams.
- Monitor external trends and disruptions across sectors, technology, policy, and market dynamics to identify potential opportunities and threats early.

Qualifications
- A postgraduate degree level qualification in a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
