Pay Range
Compensation for this position is expected to range between $29.75 and $30.25 per hour, in alignment with what California Baptist University (CBU) reasonably anticipates paying for this role. The final rate may vary depending on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and prevailing market conditions. Position Summary Information
Summary
Serves as the Dispatcher for Aviation Science, collaborating closely with the Director of Flight Operations, Chief Flight Instructor, and Director of Maintenance. Ensures the smooth execution of daily Flight Operations by managing Talon ETA, including creating and adjusting day-to-day schedules. Also provides administrative support to maintain the overall efficiency of the Aviation Science Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Coordinate and dispatch aircraft, simulators, Flight Instructors, and students to ensure efficient and successful daily operations.
- Communicate effectively between Flight Operations and Maintenance to support accurate and timely aircraft scheduling.
- Maintain accurate records, files, cancellation logs, and all relevant departmental databases.
- Monitor the safe and efficient progress of all local and cross‑country flights using the Flight Tracking System.
- Maintain professional and cooperative communication with airport officials, CBU faculty and staff, and FAA personnel, following the guidance of the Director of Flight Operations and the Chief Pilot.
- Adhere to all procedures outlined in the CBU Dispatcher Handbook and CBU Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.
- Participate actively in Dispatcher Staff Meetings.
- Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently and make sound decisions in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Provide oversight for dispatch shifts and step in as needed to support operations.
- Train and standardize new dispatch hires to ensure consistent performance and compliance.
- Create and manage the daily flight schedule.
- Develop and maintain the weekly dispatcher schedule.
- Ensure dispatchers are utilizing time effectively through appropriate task delegation.
- Assist in updating and refining dispatch policies and procedures within the Dispatch Handbook.
- Contribute to the planning and facilitation of dispatch meetings.
- Represent the Department of Aviation Science, California Baptist University, and Christian Higher Education in a positive and professional manner.
- Maintain working knowledge of pilot planning responsibilities to support proper Flight and Dispatch Operations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises staff and fulfills all supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. Duties include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; administering disciplinary actions; and addressing concerns while effectively resolving workplace issues.

- Maintains effective communication with the Flight Operations Supervisor/Chief Pilot regarding flight operations, Talon ETA updates, and maintenance discrepancies (squawks).
- Willing and able to work Saturdays and evening shifts as needed.
- Possesses general knowledge of aviation meteorology and can interpret official aviation weather products.
- Maintains strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit, and must have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment. Visual acuity is necessary to read words, numbers, and digital displays, and the employee must possess adequate speaking and hearing ability to communicate in person and over the phone. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The role also requires the ability to push, pull, bend, lift, and carry objects, including repositioning aircraft using a tow bar or tug.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here represent those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. Noise levels may range from moderate to high, particularly when working in proximity to aircraft with running engines. Employees may experience potential exposure to hazards including, but not limited to, fuel, elevated noise, propellers, and aircraft fluids such as oil.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate required, along with one to twelve months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required.
