About the opportunity
The Faculty of Engineering is seeking an experienced Educational Designer to provide high-level operational and technical support to academic teaching staff across the Faculty and strengthen the delivery of teaching and learning.
As an Educational Designer, you will apply strong technical knowledge, learning design expertise and operational capability to support teaching staff across the Faculty. The role requires a proactive, solutions-oriented approach and a commitment to delivering outstanding service while maintaining high standards in the design and implementation of learning content.
You will work closely with academic and teaching staff, inter-faculty teams and university-wide stakeholders to develop high-quality online educational resources. While part of a Faculty-wide team, you will be embedded within one or two schools and contribute to key Faculty initiatives. Student-centric education design is a core strategic pillar for the Faculty, with in-depth unit reviews playing a critical role in uplifting quality. We value data-informed decision making to deliver meaningful outcomes, and Educational Designers are expected to bring strong technical expertise, analytical capability and a service-focused mindset.
The role also supports the smooth delivery of semester start and exam Gradescope activities and the development of clear and effective student communications. The successful candidate will drive innovation in online learning environments and student learning experiences by identifying opportunities for enhancement and providing practical, hands-on support. You will also provide expert advice, training and guidance to staff to support the effective use of educational technologies and the delivery of engaging, high-quality courses.
You will be part of the broader Education Services portfolio of more than 30 professional staff, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team committed to delivering outstanding service and measurable impact across the Faculty.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- provide deep technical expertise and 'at elbow' operational support to the work area in the creation and development of educational resources to enhance student learning experience
- undertake unit reviews in collaboration with the AD L&T, peer reviewer and unit of study coordinators
- support with developing innovative tools and resources to meet the teaching and curriculum needs of the Faculty
- partner with Professional and Academic teaching staff on instructional approaches, activities, and assessments that support student centered learning
- create, test, and implement online and classroom educational resources for staff and students using an LMS and other full range of other education technologies
- use your technical skills and judgement to identify problems, brainstorm and analyse answers, and implement the best solutions
- undertake ad-hoc projects and other activities.
About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for an Educational Designer who has:
- a bachelor's degree in a relevant field or the equivalent in experience
- the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
- excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes
- the ability to use digital tools and platforms to support academic colleagues delivering online and in-person education (Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, HTML and CSS, desktop video recording and publishing)
- the ability to strive to develop and improve their own proficiency in using technology, and in recommending educational approaches, and so creating a positive impact for the faculty and University
- the ability to understand stakeholders needs and expectations, and deliver an excellent service experience for Faculty staff, students, and the community
- the ability to think creatively about current challenges and opportunities to develop solutions, encouraging creative capacity in others to optimise outcomes for students, staff, and the faculty.
