Emergency Management Technician
Job Description
The Emergency Management Technician supports the Emergency Management and Environmental Health programs that ensures the University follows policies, procedures, and safety requirements that prevent harm to students, faculty, staff, or visitors. The Emergency Management Technician will participate in the development and implementation of emergency plans and training of the University staff and faculty. In addition, this position will develop and maintain corrective action plans as it relates to safety compliance. as well as performing other related duties as assigned.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain regulatory preparedness and compliance regarding blood borne pathogens, biohazard management, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, chemical safety, laboratory safety, hazard communication, and fire safety.
- Participate in performing indoor air quality assessments, annual laboratory hood certifications, building inspections, fire inspections, water quality assessments, AED program maintenance, and life safety compliance.
- Participate in the remediation of hazardous materials spills including assessment, exposure control planning, and waste disposal.
- Assist in the development and training of the University emergency operations plan, as well as departmental and building continuity plans, and special event planning.
- Maintain corrective action plans for safety compliance.
- Assists in the delivery of tabletop and full-scale exercises.
- Work in the emergency operations center as assigned during an emergency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge in several areas of discipline, to include emergency management, emergency preparedness, National Incident Management System, and Environmental Health and Safety.
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations, policies and practices regarding emergency management and environmental health requirements as they apply to a higher education facilities.
- Knowledge of safe work behaviors and interpretation of environmental health and safety data.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate with individuals from various technical and educational backgrounds.
- Ability to set priorities, analyze problems, work independently, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to efficiently establish and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Bending, twisting and lifting weights to 100lbs.
Qualifications
- A minimum of three (3) years of emergency management or environmental health experience, which must demonstrate increasing level of responsibility/scope.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
