Employment and Expatriate Taxes Manager

Are you an Employment and/or Expatriate Tax specialist who is looking for a new challenge? If so, this may be the role for you. We are offering an opportunity to enhance how the University operates in these important compliance areas. The University is a complex organisation so we are confident that we can offer a truly varied and challenging role. You will be allowed to contribute to initiatives and enhancement projects as well as apply your technical knowledge to practical solutions.

In return, we offer an environment where you will be valued and encouraged to learn and contribute. At the same time, we will support you in maintaining a true work-life balance. If you are already working within an in-house Tax team, or you are in practice and looking to get away from charge out rates and client billing, please apply.

The University is one of the world's leading academic centres. It comprises 150 faculties and departments, together with a central administration and other institutions. Our institutions, museums and collections are a world-class resource for researchers, students and members of the public, representing one of the country's highest concentrations of internationally important collections.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Employment Tax, the role will be responsible for increasing employment and expatriate tax knowledge, understanding and compliance across the University and related areas.

Working with multiple stakeholders, you will provide practical and technical advice to ensure best practice is adopted.

The postholder will:

  • Create and monitor policies and processes relating to employment and expatriate taxes
  • Provide technical guidance, to the University, on specific employment tax and expatriate tax issues, including highlighting areas for continuous improvement
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the University's employment status for tax process
  • Advise on the set-up of and compliance relating to globally mobile employees
  • Assist in projects across the University

Your Skills

You will be passionate, hard-working and driven. It is important that you are excited about the challenge and opportunities that the University presents.

You will be expected to have:

  • Strong UK employment tax and expatriate tax expertise, with experience of working in an in-house tax team for a large multinational or advising such businesses in a professional services organisation, with experience of providing practical advice to business and non-tax professionals
  • CTA or ACA qualified (or similar by experience)

Benefits

The University offers an excellent benefit package including:

  • 41 days annual leave, inclusive of Bank Holidays
  • Defined benefits pension schemes
  • Flexible working options
  • Family-friendly initiatives
  • Support for health & mental wellbeing

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure and a security check. We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
