Position Summary:
The Engineering Advising Coordinator supports undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Engineering through proactive, student-centered academic advising. The Advising Coordinator provides guidance on degree requirements, academic planning, registration, and university policies to promote student success and timely graduation. This position collaborates closely with faculty, department chairs, and campus offices to enhance the overall student experience and uphold the School’s academic standards. This is a temporary, part-time, hybrid position, approximately 20 hours/week, for the 2025-26 academic year.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized academic advising to assigned students on program requirements and choices, course selection, and progress toward degree completion.
- Support the Dean and the Centralized Advising Office with advising through academic determinations.
- Monitor academic performance and intervene as needed to support retention and success.
- Assist with registration, graduation audits, grade replacement requests, program modifications, prerequisite reviews, and policy interpretation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with FERPA.
- Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to improve advising practices and student outcomes.
- Manage requests, reviews, and tracking of students taking math/science off campus.
- Manage external scholarship communications and application reviews; work with Jasper Central to ensure student eligibility.
- Assist with communicating internships and job opportunities to students.
- Assist with planning SOE student recruitment and other events.
- Other special projects or duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred (Engineering, Education, Counseling, or related field).
- Two or more years of experience in academic advising or student support within higher education preferred.
- Ability to understand and apply university academic policies, degree requirements, and student development principles
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to student success
