Overview

The primary responsibility of the Adjunct Faculty member is teaching. We are seeking adjunct instructors for the following course at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI):

ENG 5153 Engineering Fundamentals for Bioprocessing (Fall, 3 credits)

Course Description

The objective of this course is to provide first-year MEng in Bioprocessing students who have not had undergraduate engineering courses in fluid mechanics, heat transfer and mass transfer with these concepts and skills associated with bioprocess engineering. The topics covered include the application of engineering calculations to analyze and design bioreactors and associated systems for bioproduction.

The successful candidate must share in the mission of KGI and the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences Programs. The Adjunct Faculty member reports directly to the Dean of Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and works collaboratively with the Program Directors and other faculty.

Located in beautiful Claremont, California, Keck Graduate Institute is a member of the prestigious Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges, two graduate institutions, and The Claremont Colleges Services, which provide shared institutional support services.

Education and Experience

Minimum of a Master's degree in a related field. A doctoral degree is strongly preferred. Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience. Prior experience in teaching for active learning preferred. Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.

  • Provides high-quality student instruction
  • Evaluates student performance (e.g., written assignments, examinations, in-class activities);

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and present complex issues to varied individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience working with a diverse campus community and possess a commitment to equity and inclusion.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.

Ability to travel locally, depending on business needs.
