Engineering, Instructor in Systems Engineering (One-year, Temporary), Non-Tenure Track

The Department of Engineering in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Temporary Full-Time Instructor beginning Fall 2025. Engineering at Loyola is relatively new, having graduated its inaugural undergraduate class in 2019 and achieved ABET accreditation in 2020. It is consistently ranked in the Top 60 (currently #37) in the annual U.S. News and World Report Best Undergraduate Programs (No Doctorate) list, and in the Top 10 of 400+ engineering institutions in the annual American Society for Engineering Education Percentage of Bachelors Degrees Awarded to Women list. For more information about the department, please visit its website at luc.edu/engineering.

We welcome candidates with strong teaching profiles in systems engineering. The systems three-course sequence that all Engineering students take is Linear Systems, Numerical Methods/Control Theory, and Introduction to Digital Signal Processing. Each capstone design project begins with a student team constructing its system diagram.

This search is part of a College-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding teachers and researchers who are reflective of our diverse student body, committed to interdisciplinarity, dedicated to the pursuit of external grants, and appreciative of a Jesuit, Catholic education. As a University that is situated in the world-class, multicultural City of Chicago and dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from underrepresented and underserved populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented groups.

This position involves teaching undergraduate engineering systems and core engineering courses.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience: The candidate will have an MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering at the time of appointment. Candidates for the position must demonstrate clear potential for excellence in teaching and student mentorship. The candidate must be willing to support the mission of Loyola University Chicago and the goals of a Jesuit, Catholic education.
