Position Highlights
The University is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Advisor. This position supports regulatory compliance and protects, promotes, and advocates for the health and safety of UA students, faculty, and staff and serves as a member of the University's hazardous waste team responsible for setting processes to be followed in the event of an emergency. Duties & Responsibilities
- Inspects University facilities for compliance with applicable regulations, codes, hygiene practices, and workplace safety rules. Assess anticipated and existing hazards by reviewing documents, conducting measurements, calculations, and interviews. Communicates suspected and known hazards to Principle Investigators (PIs), faculty, staff, and students to mitigate hazards in the workplace.
- Supports development and maintenance of research safety program operational documents: Hygiene Plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, forms, documents, signs, labels, metrics, and website content. Supports surveillance and coordination efforts relevant to managing unique regulated materials and hazardous workplace hazards (e.g., shop safety, electrical, LOTO, confined space, etc.).
- Conducts employee injury investigations using route cause analysis. Prepares reports including observations and analyses of situations and recommendations for control and correction. Maintains computer records for follow up to ensure a safe workplace.
- Assists in preparation and conducting OSHA compliance and employee safety training programs for members of the University community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of occupational safety and environmental requirements with the ability to review and understand federal, state, local, and university safety requirements.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluent understanding of Microsoft Office platform.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- One year of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Ability to wear respiratory protective equipment such as N95, PAPR, and half/full face respirator.
- Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
