Advertised Job SummaryInstructor, Theatre (Design)

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at USC Aiken seeks a non-tenure track INSTRUCTOR OF THEATRE (DESIGN) to start August 16, 2024. The nine-month responsibilities include teaching general education courses, technical labs, and design courses based on expertise. Designing and Technical Direction for University Theatre productions, supervising student designers, and departmental service.


Required Qualifications:

Candidates must possess an M.A. in Theatre, with experience in design and technical theatre. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

· M.F.A. in Theatrical Design (Scenic and/or Lighting)

· Experience teaching or supervising students at the college level

· Experience as a Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, or the equivalent, at a university or professional level

· Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations

· Ability to work in a collaborative development process with faculty colleagues and students

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

The BA in Theatre seeks to provide a solid Theatre Generalist foundation that combines the philosophical with the practical, placing a unique emphasis on student-generated work. Rigorous course work, coupled with practical application in production, prepares students to take the next step in their career, whether that be academic or professional. A professionally active faculty, strong classes, internships, and an active production program all help to prepare students for the theatre of the 21st century. The USC Aiken Theatre Program enriches the cultural life of the community through the presentation of a variety of theatrical productions.
