Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,700 per credit hour

Pay Determination: Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:

The Department of Drama within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach DRA 090 Theater Lab: New York as a Museum, a one credit hour course as part of the Tepper Semester in New York, during the Spring semester, 2026. This course will meet on Wednesdays 10:00am - 12:00pm January 14, 21, February 4, 18, March 4, March 18, and April 1.

This course is designed to introduce students to the vibrant life and history of New York City through the lens of its cultural institutions-from fine art museums to the Tenement Museum, and from the New-York Historical Society to the Museum of Food and Drink. Students will participate in guided museum tours and will select several institutions to visit independently. For the final class, students will present on their chosen institutions, reflecting on how each contributes to the cultural, historical, and social narrative of New York City.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in the arts (MFA preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of New York Citys cultural landscape
  • Minimum of four years of teaching experience at an institution of higher learning

Job Specific Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of theater, art history, New York museum and art scene, ability to teach students.

Responsibilities:

Teaching the sessions and leading the visits to the museums, giving students feedback on their research and presentations.

In addition:

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
  • Meeting all designated class periods.
  • If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
  • You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
