EOP Student Success Advisor

EOP Student Success Advisor

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Student Success Advisors (SSAs) provide comprehensive academic, personal, career, and financial aid advisement to assigned EOP scholars. SSAs are responsible for actively monitoring their respective caseloads and supporting students through all phases of their collegiate experience. Through proactive guidance, individualized support, and continuous assessment, SSAs ensure that EOP scholars are maximizing their potential, maintaining academic progress, and achieving sustained student success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Student Success Advisor (SSA) is a full-time, student-facing advisor responsible for assisting EOP scholars in navigating key logistical and academic components of their Seton Hall University experience. This includes, but is not limited to, understanding and using Compass and Banner, financial aid processes, first-year course selection, registration procedures, and resolving registration holds.
  • The SSA conducts bi-weekly advising appointments with students placed on an Academic Action Plan, defined as students with a semester or cumulative GPA below 2.75. In addition, the SSA meets monthly with students not on an Action Plan to provide ongoing academic monitoring and support.
  • The SSA monitors and tracks students’ financial aid verification status at both the federal and state levels. For students selected for verification, the SSA works collaboratively with the Office of Financial Aid and the student to ensure timely and complete submission of all required documentation.
  • The SSA maintains accurate, up-to-date records and files for their assigned caseload and generates reports as requested. Records may be maintained electronically and include, but are not limited to: student identification numbers, first and last names, Action Plan notes, semester and cumulative GPAs, class year, retention data, and graduation outcomes.
  • The SSA teaches a five- to six-week summer enrichment course (EXAC 1111) and a Fall semester section of University Life, contributing to students’ academic and transitional success.
  • In collaboration with students’ assigned Academic Advisors, the SSA ensures that students remain on track to graduate within the designated timeframe.
  • The SSA performs additional duties as assigned by the Director or Associate Director of the Educational Opportunity Program.

Please note: This is a student-facing, on-campus position requiring regular in-person engagement with students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in college-level academic advising, career counseling, and/or financial aid advisement.
