Evening Access Services Supervisor, Bapst Library
Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Circulation and Collection Maintenance Services and primarily based at Bapst Library, the Access Services Evening Supervisor is part of a team responsible for providing public services, organizing physical collections, and overseeing library buildings and spaces. This team plays a vital role in fostering a positive relationship between the library and its users.
This position holder has several areas of focus: They are responsible for handling all types of circulation-related transactions, such as checking items in and out, managing hold requests, and resolving patron account issues. The position requires the ability to interpret and communicate library policies and procedures clearly to ensure that users receive consistent and accurate information. They are responsible for hiring, training, and supervising student employees. They create training materials and play a key role in managing communication between a large student employee workforce and a team of student employee supervisors. This position promotes a positive workplace culture among full-time staff and student employees.
They are responsible for processing Interlibrary Loan transactions. In this role, they must ensure all requests comply with copyright guidelines. The person in this position must be able to prioritize requests, develop an overall understanding of Resource Sharing, and communicate effectively with colleagues in the interlibrary loan unit.
They help develop, implement, and maintain collection workflows, ensuring materials are returned promptly and shelved correctly. They complete the necessary steps for effective and efficient inventory tracking and maintenance, report missing items, and conduct searches. They also participate in collection maintenance projects, which may include shifting stacks, withdrawing books, and handling serials.
They handle all stages of processing needed to prepare and organize print and digital Course Reserves. The position is responsible for creating reading lists, processing requests promptly, and communicating with faculty and instructors to provide updates and set service expectations. They must be able to interpret library holdings and access licenses.
They must utilize the library's integrated systems, scanners, and other software. Periodically, they submit purchase requests and ILL transactions for Course Reserves materials, actions that require good judgment and fiscal responsibility.
Weekly Schedule: 35 hour week, 12-month permanent position, Tuesday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Friday and Saturdays 2 p.m. - 10 p.m.
Summer Schedule: Monday-Thursday: 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This position primarily works in the Bapst Library but also provides services for the O'Neill Library. All members of the Access Services Department may be expected to work at least two weekends per semester.
Hiring Range: $24.12/hr to $30.14/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
- Ability to communicate with faculty, students and staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Demonstrated interest in Art History
- Ability to read a MARC record
- Familiarity with library organization, cataloging, and classification
- One year of library support experience preferred
