Department: The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is a department of Florida State University.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and sets priorities for all aspects of The John and Mable Ringling Museum Art Library.
  • Develops, interprets, and implements policies, programs, and long-range planning related to library collections.
  • Manages, coordinates, and directs library programs and operations.
  • Supervises library staff, interns, and volunteers; establishes performance goals and conducts evaluations.
  • Develops and monitors the annual budget for library operations.
  • Oversees collections development and ensures the collection remains current.
  • Supervises acquisitions by purchase and gift/exchange.
  • Responsible for the rare book collection and oversees conservation in consultation with the Museum Conservator.
  • Performs research on Ringling legacy, collections, visual arts, and cultural history.
  • Coordinates and leads library public programming, such as the Literati Book Club.
  • Provides reference services and research support to staff, faculty, and the public.
  • Assists with reference, circulation, public services, and promotes emerging technologies.
  • Works with the Advancement Team to cultivate relationships with donors and constituents.
  • Collaborates with Florida State University Libraries as needed.
  • Contributes to the library profession through research, publication, and participation in professional associations.
  • Serves on museum committees and special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Three years' experience in libraries or similar settings.
  • Three years of management experience.
  • Experience with technological systems related to library management, reference/research services, and literacy instructions.
  • Commitment to public service with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, and handle physical tasks like lifting up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years' experience in libraries.
  • Experience with special collections and managing arts collections.
  • Ability to develop innovative library programs.
  • Knowledge of art history and research methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of languages relevant to art historical research.
  • Awareness of emerging trends in academic libraries.
