POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Evening/Weekend Access Services Lead position reports to the Access Services Librarian. The work schedule for this position is Sunday - Thursday, with schedule modifications during extended hours, intersessions, and summer term. The Evening/Weekend Access Services Lead closes the library during weeknights and Sundays and may fill in for opening shifts when needed.
This position works with a high degree of independence during weekend and evening shifts, providing customer service and support for a wide range of library services and technology, enforcing library policies, managing the circulation desk, resolving non-routine problems, and serving as the primary staff contact for student employees during evening and weekend shifts. The WAS Lead opens and closes the library independently. This position supports Hannon Library operations by serving as coordinator and lead for stacks maintenance in collaboration with other Hannon Library staff and faculty. This includes inventory, weeding, and regular condition review of physical materials including serials and AV materials. These and other projects require close collaboration with other Access Services staff.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR, 4 years of current library experience; AND, advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems.
  • Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s), e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL management, government documents, image resources, music.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience at a public/user facing service desk.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, file management skills, word processing and spreadsheet experience; database skills, web navigation skills, and email management skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with general office equipment including scanners, copiers, multi-line telephones, fax machine, and a cash register.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to learn quickly, and constructively engage in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Student supervisory experience, including hiring, training, managing a budget, and scheduling.
  • Working knowledge of an Integrated Library System (ILS), specifically Ex Libris Alma.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Knowledge of library organization and the Dewey Decimal and/or Library of Congress call number classification systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in public services.

Essential Functions

(35%) Evening/Weekend Access Services Lead
Work with a high degree of independence guided by library policy & procedure manuals & technical resource materials.
Assist library patrons at the Access Services Circulation desk in person, over the phone, and via email. Interpret and explain department, library, and campus procedures and service policies. Use advanced knowledge of library and information procedures, public service experience and/or technical expertise to resolve problems with patron records and transactions.
Perform routine and non-routine circulation desk transactions. Create and update patron records.
Collect and process payments for library charges, service fees, and Friends of Hannon Library memberships.
Perform early morning support for Resource Sharing including printing local and Summit hold slips and pulling items from the shelves.
Receive and assist with the resolution of patron inquiries, complaints, and feedback.
Responsible for opening the library, including placing room cards, unlocking reserved rooms, and other opening procedures.
Track and report problems related to morning hours supervision to Access Services Librarian.
Secure the department's money at opening.
Monitor and report public safety and security issues.

(30%) Library Systems Support
Serve as stacks coordinator including regular weeding, inventory, and shelf reading for all regular collections including audio visual, periodicals, and books.
Collaborate with other Access Services staff and faculty on directing student workers on shelving and weeding projects as needed.
Coordinate and manage the creation and update the Course Reserves collection each term.
Use a departmental P-card for the Course Reserves collection.

(25%) Access Services Support
Receive and assist with the resolution of patron inquiries, complaints, and feedback when other staff is unavailable.
Provide backup coverage for opening and extended hours shifts.
Interpret and explain department, library, and campus procedures and service policies.
Create and update patron records.
Contribute to a safe, welcoming, and productive environment for library users and employees.

(10%) Service and Collaboration
Engage in collaboration on special projects with other work areas in the library.
Participate in library, campus, or consortial committees, teams, and working groups.
Engage in strategic planning initiatives & goals, in accordance with the University's Mission, Vision, and Values.
