Expanded Duty Dental Assistant (Multiple Vacancies)
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking Expanded Duty Dental Assistants within the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, Oral Surgery Department. The Expanded Duty Dental Assistants will assist dentists and residents with dental procedures and patient treatment. Expanded Duty Dental Assistants will also provide assistance during general anesthesia, cosmetic surgical procedures, and implant dentistry procedures. Additionally, the Expanded Duty Dental Assistants will carry out a variety of general office receptionist assignments, including front desk duties and data entry.
Key Duties:
- Identifies and pull selected equipment, instruments and supplies needed for oral maxillofacial surgical procedures.
- Prepares and sets up work area and operatory for the scheduled procedure including turnovers, cleaning, restocking, inventory and ordering of supplies and instruments on a regular basis. Assists in gowning and gloving surgeons.
- Escorts patients from waiting area to operatory and prepare patient for procedure like draping, positioning, witnessing patient consent and organizing instrumentation prior to procedure.
- Checks and records vital signs on the charts (e.g., pulse, blood pressure, temperature, respiration and weight) prior to procedure.
- Prepares implant for insertion and I.V. Cases.
- Protects airways during anesthesia by suctioning and proper positioning of head and chin. Prepares implants for insertion.
- Assists resident/student cases.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program.
- Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA), Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) both through the Dental Assisting National Board.
- Possess a valid Dental Radiographic Technology License issued by the State of New Jersey, Department of Environmental Protection.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms, 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Must be able to lift patients, heavy boxes weighing up to forty (40) pounds, instrument sets weighing up to twenty (20) pounds; must be able to lift surgical supplies above the head.
Work Environment: Clinic and office operations, moderate noise.
