Description

Fundamental Objectives of this Position: Provide therapeutic services, crisis intervention, and campus-wide programming through the Office of Counseling Services.  Act as an integral member of the Student Affairs team that provides a program designed to support and enhance student success.


Responsibilities

Institution wide responsibilities

  • Participate with other members of the campus community to enhance the students’ learning and to promote their well-being at Mount Union. 
  • Implement departmental objectives, which are consistent with and serve to support the University of Mount Union mission.
  • Serve on institutional committees as requested.
  • Collaborate with student affairs staff and others in coordination with institutional efforts regarding retention.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate University compliance training and staff meetings as communicated by the University, the Vice President of Student Affairs, or the Associate Dean of Students.

Functional Areas of Responsibility

  • Provide quality mental health services for all graduate and undergraduate students seeking assistance with a wide range of concerns and developmental/transitional issues. 
  • Facilitate mental health presentations and skill-building workshops to meet the various needs of the campus community. 
  • Develop and implement programs to augment individual client services, such as, but not limited to, support groups, training initiatives, campus outreach, etc.

Duties

  • Conduct individual/group/consultation counseling sessions using Solution-Focused Therapy or other evidence-based modalities with students who are seeking assistance from counseling services.
  • Maintain client files, treatment plans, and case notes in a timely manner in accordance with departmental expectations.
  • Work with the director of counseling services to provide outreach and campus-wide programming.
  • Attend weekly supervision meetings with the director of counseling services.
  • Share in on-call duty rotation and provide crisis assessment and intervention services as needed.
  • Participate in training for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate with University Health Center and Office of Accessibility Services for necessary referrals.
  • Act as liaison to Residence Life, Dean of Students’ Office, Athletics, and a variety of other campus entities to address student issues or concerns as well as for training and programming needs that they may identify or request.
  • Make referrals to external agencies and professional services when appropriate.
  • Complete on-going continuing education and professional development in accordance with recommendations of accrediting bodies and credentialing requirements associated with continued licensure.
  • Maintain a supportive office environment which includes an appreciation of diversity, individuality, healthy relationships, open communication, trust, and respect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in clinical counseling, mental health counseling, or college counseling required.
  • Current independent Ohio Licensure in Professional Counseling (LPCC-S) or Social Work (LISW-S) in good standing required.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant experience; preferably with young emerging adults, including previous experience in a college or university setting.
  • An understanding of the issues facing University students, and experience or training in crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
  • An awareness of the importance of culture, race, gender identity, religion, and disability status and how they and other dimensions of diversity intersect to impact mental health. 
  • Strong clinical, diagnostic, interpersonal, and communication skills. 
  • Ability and willingness to provide crisis assessment and intervention during and outside of scheduled work hours. 
  • This is a 12-month full-time position, eligible for all Mount Union benefits.
