Basic Functions

Santa Barbara City College is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member position in the Department of Medical Imaging Sciences to start in Fall 2026. In 2009, SBCC was designated as an Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting our responsibility to support and serve the needs of our Latina/o/x students. Moreover, given our overall student population, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to join a department that is dedicated to the use of curriculum and pedagogy that shares SBCC's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse post-traditional student population.

Commencing Fall 2026, a full-time tenure-track faculty position will be available in the Department of Medical Imaging Sciences. Responsibilities include instruction in the theory of Radiographic and Imaging Sciences via face-to-face and or online, and clinical teaching and evaluation within three counties (Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo), as needed. Other duties consist of, but not limited to, meeting professional responsibilities as set by the department. Departmental responsibilities including departmental and bimonthly clinical faculty meetings, actively participating in maintaining and implementation of the program's curriculum and regulations to maintain state and national accreditation standards.

Please Note: Clinical teaching and evaluation will require driving to get to the assigned location. The assignment for this position may include teaching in the Winter Intersession and Summer Session in addition to the regular Fall and Spring Semesters.

SALARY & PERSONNEL BENEFITS

The current salary schedule range for an entering tenure-track faculty member is $74,473 - $116,752 with a PhD bonus of $3,723.65. Depending on the entry step, the faculty member advances one-step each year and has the potential to reach the current maximum step of $148,626, depending on the educational level attained. Starting salary is commensurate with academic preparation and full-time related, paid experience. In addition to salary, each full-time employee participates in a "cafeteria style" health and welfare benefits program.

Representative Duties

  • Experience in advanced imaging science modalities such as Digital, CT and MRI.
  • Ability to use computers and other multimedia technologies in the instruction of radiology courses.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of students with different ability statuses (e.g. physical and/or learning).
  • Interest in and evidence of expertise in culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques, including effective practices for engaging students who are historically underrepresented and underserved in classrooms.
  • An understanding of the implications a Hispanic-Serving designation suggests for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices.
  • Commitment to the community college mission.
  • An understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of racially and/or ethnically minoritized students within Higher Education shape patterns of participation and outcomes within the classroom.
  • Evidence of working effectively with racially and/or ethnically diverse populations.
  • An understanding of anti-racist and culturally-responsive pedagogical practices which honor and respect what students bring to the classroom and uses students' prior knowledge and/or lived experiences to inform instruction.
  • Evidence of working effectively with post-traditional students.
  • Has experience or has demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring and/or engaging in services for Black and Brown students.
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of barriers for Black and Brown students and experience in addressing disproportionate impact at an institution.
  • Has experience in or has demonstrated commitment in facilitating Black and Brown students' navigating a higher education institution.
  • Has experience or has demonstrated commitment to integrating elements of culturally relevant and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Ability to update one's skills, keep current with emerging trends in industry and make appropriate program modifications that reflect these trends.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies of promoting student learning.

Education and Experience

Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.

1. A Bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience, OR

2. Any associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR the equivalent

3. Possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to all of the above. Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required material.

4. Holds current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification and registration, or equivalent, in radiography.

5. Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

If the title of your degree as stated on your transcripts DOES NOT EXACTLY MATCH one of the degree titles listed in the minimum qualifications listed above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. Those documents include a completed SBCC Equivalency Crosswalk, and a narrative synopsis of your educational background justifying equivalency.
