Field Laboratory Assistant
Position Details
- Based in the College of Science, Waite Campus
- Full time, fixed term position until end of June 2030
- Salary range: $73,961 - $81,967 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)
Work that matters
The Field Laboratory Assistant will support the Weeds Research Group at the Waite Campus, contributing to research that aims to reduce the impact of herbicide resistant weeds on Australian grain producers. This national collaboration includes research nodes in Adelaide, Perth, Wagga Wagga and Toowoomba.
Working primarily in a field laboratory environment, the role will support plant growth and maintenance across glasshouse, shadehouse and controlled environments, along with seed preparation and sample collection. The position also provides day-to-day support to grant-funded research activities and student projects, with occasional assistance at field research sites.
The team
The Field Laboratory Assistant reports to the Senior Mortlock Fellow within the Weeds Research Group in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine.
The College of Science brings together leading researchers, educators and industry partners across disciplines including agriculture, food and wine, environmental science, biology, chemistry and physics.
Experience
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in plant growth and maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience working in a field laboratory setting and supporting operations, administration and safety management.
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, including researchers, students, and field staff.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
Desirable
- Experience in using data management software (e.g., Excel, GenStat, R, or similar) for recording, organising, and analysing field data.
Qualification/s
- Completion of a diploma level qualification or Certificate IV with relevant work related experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
