Hunter College is seeking a Financial Aid Advisor to join the team and be a part of the mission to serve the Hunter College community. The Financial Aid Advisor reports to the Financial Aid Manager.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Advisor will be responsible for the following duties:
- Provide comprehensive advising and support in the areas of financial aid application, eligibility, awarding, disbursement, and reconciliation for all Hunter College students.
- Serve as an integral part of the Financial Aid team, addressing student inquiries with professionalism and delivering high-quality, student-first service.
- Stay current with federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures; effectively communicate updates to the campus community through individual advising, workshops, and group presentations.
- Actively contribute to the Hunter College community by fostering a culture of collaboration and student success, supporting both departmental and institutional goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required.
Preferred Qualifications
- A demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality, student-centered service within a diverse and inclusive academic environment is expected.
- Strong working knowledge of federal and New York State financial aid regulations, programs, policies, and procedures preferred.
- Experience using financial aid systems and tools, particularly PeopleSoft (CUNYfirst), and related platforms such as NSLDS, is highly desirable.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities to effectively support students and collaborate with colleagues is a must.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule during peak periods, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
CUNY Title Overview
Counsels applicants and students on eligibility for financial aid programs, assisting them in the application process.
- Verifies eligibility for Federal and State financial aid programs including grants, scholarships, and guaranteed student loans.
- Performs application intake, evaluation, processing and awarding.
- Assists in the production of Financial Aid online, print material, and websites.
- Advises students on good academic standing requirements and the appeal process; reviews appeals for dependency overrides and budget adjustments.
- Conducts group workshops and represents the financial aid office at various on- and off- campus events.
- Serves as a liaison between the college office and Direct Loan Providers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

$48,911-$57,573, Salary commensurate with education and experience.
