Salary Range: 29
Salary: $5,483.10 – $7,022.15 monthly; Successful candidate will start at step 1 except in cases where District deems appropriate.

Basic Function
Under the direction of an administrator or manager, performs specialized administrative duties in support of Financial Aid programs and services; provides assistance in specialized programs including but not limited to Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), R2T4, Cal Grant, Federal Work Study, Direct Loans, and PELL Grants.
Representative Duties
- Performs a variety of specialized and technical duties in support of one or more assigned programs and services, such as Veteran Affairs, Student Direct Loan program, Cal Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work Study, PELL, SAP, R2T4, Overpayments, Foundation and Outside Scholarships, Chaffee Grant, AB19, and various additional federal and state programs.
- Reviews financial aid rules against system updates, provides recommendations to ensure compliance.
- Partners with Information Technology (IT) to monitor data integrity for assigned programs.
- Performs accounting/billing and/or budget related activities related to program; receives, counts, reconciles, and maintains records related to the collection and disbursement of funds.
- Participates in year-end closing processes and procedures; identifies and verifies collection notices; sends to students as necessary; submits reports to state and government agencies.
- Provides technical assistance and information to students regarding Financial Aid programs and services; instructs students in correct procedures for completion of forms, applications, and requirements; reviews student loan submissions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Answers questions and provides information and assistance to students and others regarding assigned programs; explains department policies, procedures, and functions according to established guidelines; responds to requests for information from District officials, faculty, students, and other institutions within the purview and scope of the assignment.
- Performs specialized duties in support of the Federal Student Loan program as assigned.
- Distributes, receives, reviews, completes, verifies, and determines the amount of borrowing eligibility per application; explains loan requirements, procedures, and related information.
- Evaluates academic progress, student budgets, grade level eligibility, length of program, family contribution, and prorated loan amounts; responsible for institutional certification signature on loan applications.
- Prepares and disburses loan funds in coordination with the student business office.
- Analyzes, interprets, and explains financial aid disbursement transactions.
- Processes Financial Aid applications and forms; review records for changes in status; requests transcripts, records, and other information as needed.
- Assists in verification and determination of student need and eligibility for Financial Aid; monitors continued eligibility for student awards; amends student awards according to status changes; adjusts student payments and bills student accordingly.
- Operates computer hardware, software, and system applications to obtain and/or verify Financial Aid information and records; enters a variety of information and data into student information system; maintains and updates records and files.
- Coordinates communications and activities with other District departments, personnel, educational institutions, government, private agencies, and the public.
- Develops and conducts training workshops for staff, faculty, students, and the public.
- Oversees SAP appeal committee process.
- Monitors Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) of students to ensure compliance with applicable requirements and guidelines.
- Extracts and compiles information and data; generates and prepares various reports and forms related to Financial Aid and other assigned programs; prepares, updates, and maintains forms, correspondence, requisitions, and documents.
- Establishes and maintains a variety of files, records, and filing systems; maintains confidentiality of information and records.
- Trains and provides work direction to student assistants, student workers, and short-term, temporary staff as assigned.
- Performs a variety of clerical and administrative responsibilities in support of the departments day-to-day activities and/or operations utilizing a variety of communication modalities including but not limited to answers and responds to phone calls, emails, text messages, and chat platforms; opens, screens, and distributes mail and correspondence; photocopies documents and requests duplication services; ensures maintenance and repairs of assigned work areas, facilities, or equipment; enters various requests for services from IT, Facilities, and Maintenance; contacts vendors for equipment service, when needed; follows-up with vendors to ensure satisfactory completion of requests; may perform simple repairs or maintenance to standard office equipment.

Education and Experience
Associate degree in a related discipline; AND Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience directly related to assisting students within a student services environment; Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Foreign Degrees
Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.
License Certificates/Credentials
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver license; May be required to travel for various off-site meetings, trainings, conferences, and or events in support of the overall objective of the position.
Desired Qualifications
College coursework in a financial or accounting related discipline; Experience in a student-centered division within higher education.
Distinguishable Characteristics
The Financial Aid Technician II is the journey-level classification within the Financial Aid Technician series. The Financial Aid Technician II performs specialized and technical responsibilities in support of one or more assigned programs and services. The incumbent requires technical knowledge of various local, state, and federal loan and grant programs available to qualifying students. The Financial Aid Technician II is distinguished from the Financial Aid Technician I in that the latter is the entry level classification within the Financial Aid Technician series. The incumbent performs routine tasks related to Financial Aid processes including the review, completion, and processing financial aid forms and applications, compilation, and maintenance of student records and files. The Financial Aid Technician II is distinguished from the Senior Financial Aid Technician in that the latter is the senior, experienced level classification within the Financial Aid Technician series. The incumbent performs duties of the Financial Aid Technician I and II and are assigned responsibilities in support of specialized programs and services. The Senior Financial Aid Technician demonstrates advanced knowledge of specialized local, state, and federal program features and internal system programs used for financial aid and student information.
