Overview

Auburn University Facilities Management is in search of a Floor Care/Custodian Technician. This is a night shift position with possible schedule from 10 pm to 6:30 am Sunday - Thursday.

The Floor Care/Custodian Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of Auburn University's facilities. This position is responsible for performing a variety of housekeeping and specialized floor care tasks to ensure that University buildings are in excellent condition for daily operations and scheduled events. Key responsibilities include cleaning and performing minor repairs in assigned areas, such as restrooms, offices, and common spaces. Duties may involve dusting, trash removal, and other general custodial tasks. The technician also provides expert care for a range of floor surfaces by stripping, sanding, waxing, sealing, buffing, sweeping, shampooing, and mopping as needed. Additional responsibilities include maintaining equipment and supplies to support efficient operations and assisting with event setup when required.

This role is essential to creating a clean, welcoming environment that reflects Auburn University's commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans University buildings (restrooms, classrooms, and common areas) to ensure that facilities are in suitable condition for activities, which may include (but not limited to), sweeping and mopping floors, washing window, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and trash disposal.
  • Strips, sands, waxes, seals, buffs, vacuums, sweeps, shampoos, and mops various types of floor surfaces.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies to complete tasks.
  • Assists with waste disposal and recycling efforts.
  • Reports maintenance and/or safety issues.
  • Operates and ensures proper functioning of cleaning and floor care equipment.
  • Transports custodial supplies and equipment to and from storage and work areas.
  • Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  • May drive fleet vehicles and be responsible for the daily inspections and safe operations
  • May assist in building inspections to determine if custodial care is needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Level I does not require experience.
  • Level II requires 2 years of experience in floor care equipment operation, cleaning techniques, and/or specialty maintenance or a degree instead of experience.
  • Driver License required
