Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University is currently recruiting for a Food Services Supervisor 1. This position supervises food service employees in our Dining Services operations, special events, or catering locations. The position is responsible for food service production in a large scale production kitchen.
- Duties include scheduling and managing food service staff,
- Participation in all aspects of food production and service of food,
- Cash handling, cleaning/sanitation, and customer service.
- This position will assist in training new staff and teaching food service techniques and processes.
- The selected candidate may receive off campus training to meet franchise certifications and must be able to meet all EWU franchise uniform requirements and personal hygiene standards.

The salary for this position is $43,560 (minimum) up to $58,044. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Food Handlers Permit
- Washington State Drivers License
- Two years of experience in institutional or restaurant in preparing or serving food.
- 1 year supervision/lead experience
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of college or university food service experience.
- 2 years of supervision in a high volume food service location.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: practices, methods, and procedures of large-scale food preparation and servicing; personal hygiene, food handling, sanitation, and safety precautions; care and use of kitchen utensils and equipment; record keeping, report preparation; personnel functions.
Job Duties:
- Hire, supervise, train and evaluate employees involved in food preparation, production and service including classified staff, hourly employees and students (Percent of Time: 40)
- Plan and coordinate meals, catering and special events; schedule staff, order food and supplies, maintain equipment, requisition repairs and maintenance, draft menus (Percent of Time: 20)
- Forecast and monitor daily use of food, labor, equipment, and supplies (Percent of Time: 10)
- Prepare and maintain records, review and create reports, utilize software and systems (Percent of Time: 10)
- Maintain safety and sanitation in food service areas (Percent of Time: 10)
- Participate in meetings, conferences and training (Percent of Time: 5)
- Prepare and balance daily cash receipts, financial reports and deposits (Percent of Time: 5)
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires a valid food handler’s permit and a driver’s license.
- This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
- All new employees will comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
