FT Admin - Occupational & Environmental Safety Coordinator
Job Summary
The Occupation & Environmental Safety (OES) department performs critical work supporting the LCC Board Policy on Occupation & Environmental Safety. This position reports to the Director of OES and provides support by helping coordinate and advise on safety and environmental-related activities and applicable policies and procedures. This position requires exceptional communication, organizational, and computer skills and the ability to work independently, think critically, and respond to stressful situations effectively with diplomacy. This position will assist the Director of OES in establishing and maintaining a college-wide occupational & environmental safety culture. This position May serve as the designee for the Director of OES in meetings and workgroups as requested. This position requires an on-campus, in-person presence. The OES Coordinator will play a critical role as one of the college’s liaisons to Michigan’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), building and fire codes under the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and Michigan’s Bureau of Fire Services (BSF), environmental regulations under Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Bureau of Fire Services, and the Ingham, Eaton, and Livingston County Health Departments. *Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.* *Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.*
Required Qualifications
Associate Degree in Occupational Safety, Technical Careers, or closely related field. Demonstrated related work experience in Occupational & Environmental Safety, shop/trades-related safety, or similar field. Demonstrated experience developing, delivering, and facilitating presentations and training sessions for diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety, Industrial Technology, or related field. OSHA certification or MIOSHA Training Institute (Level 1 or Level2) advanced certificate or willingness to obtain. Demonstrated experience with military safety, hazmat, or technical training experience (e.g., safety NCO, Bioenvironmental engineering, hazmat specialist). Demonstrated experience in occupational, shop, trades, or technical settings. Train-the-Trainer certifications (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Powered Industrial Truck/Forklift, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication). Previous work on a College or University campus.
