Full-time Faculty, LeRoy E. Hoffberger Special Contract
Position: The LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting MFA program of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for this full-time faculty position with a one-year non-renewable contract in a non-tenure institution beginning Fall 2026. We welcome candidates who are dedicated educators with significant professional experience in painting, whose professional practice, teaching, research, or service have prepared them to contribute to excellence in graduate education at MICA.
Job Description: This faculty member will teach eighteen credits per year (typically, 9 per semester) in the graduate program. The ideal candidate will be a painter who has global perspective and is committed to inspiring and preparing the next generation of artists. Applicants should have a foundation in the history of painting, be engaged with contemporary issues, and have an understanding of the future of the field and its possibilities. The faculty member will contribute to the life of the College through cross-programmatic collaboration, committee work, and other institution-related duties. All full-time faculty at MICA are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the College.
Minimum Requirements:
- MFA degree or equivalent professional experience in painting or related field
- Professional career in painting
- Experience critiquing advanced students
- Experience teaching at graduate and/or undergraduate levels or in alternative learning spaces such as residencies, research programs, and community organizations
- Demonstrated ability to support professional development of painters as emerging arts practitioners
- Evidence of ability to work with colleagues across disciplinary boundaries
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred qualifications:
- A proven track record of working collaboratively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, experiences, education levels and degrees of professional training
- Demonstrated ease with social media, digital networking, writing, and presentation
- Experience working with students with varied abilities and from a range of cultural backgrounds
Salary: $65,000 - $80,000. Commensurate with experience and college policy; excellent benefits package (HR to add / MD State compliance).
