St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time (.80 FTE) Gallery & Studio Technical Lead.
This position exists to support The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery and the Art & Art History Department, the two programs that are located in the Visual Arts Building. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Responsibilities Include:
- Collaboration with the Gallery Director, Administrative Assistant, Gallery Committee, Fine Art Collection staff, and Art and Art History Department faculty, as well as a diverse community of students and professional artists, to coordinate and implement all gallery exhibitions and public displays of art on campus (this includes exhibition show scheduling and layout, management of artwork matting/framing, artwork installation/deinstallation, exhibition lighting and technology including projection, and production and installation of related materials, including wall didactics and vinyl signage).
- Maintaining safe studio, classroom, and other student-focused environments to ensure that they are clean, orderly, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Supporting all gallery and department events by assisting with space set-up/clean-up and technology management.
- Communicating with and training faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders on safe workplace practices and procedures with equipment and tools in all Visual Arts Building spaces (including the Spray Booth, Tool Shed and Wood Shop), and in the handling and transport of all art.
- Supporting faculty and student collaborations by designing, implementing, and managing student studio spaces in the building.
- Mentoring and empowering students of all experience levels to use best studio, equipment, and exhibition installation practices.
- Maintaining and updating the gallery website, including recording gallery events and facilitating closed captioning for all videos.
- Maintaining equipment and supplies for all studios, including ceramics (which includes wheels and kilns), sculpture, painting, printmaking and photography.
- Collaborating with Facilities Department personnel to oversee and maintain the Visual Arts Building, including monitoring physical spaces for potential issues, the safe disposal of hazardous waste and re-stocking first aid kits and eye safety stations.
- Becoming St. Kate's van-certified and maintaining certification to provide transportation for students, faculty, and staff to local galleries and museums.

Minimum Qualifications:
- AA, BA or BFA in Studio Art, Art History, Museum Studies or related field; a BS with experience in Fine Art and will also be considered.
- Experience producing professional-quality art exhibitions including artwork installation and lighting.
- Experience designing and/or building artwork displays and didactic information and signage.
- Experience handling fine art, and using ladders, hand tools and electric tools.
- Experience working with, teaching and/or mentoring diverse collaborators.
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite, Google suite and Photoshop.
- Ability to comfortably sustain frequent exposure to art materials that include chemicals, dust, odors, fumes, and power tool noise.
- Ability to perform frequent bending, reaching overhead, kneeling, lifting and moving objects.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Demonstrated skill in communicating and collaborating respectfully with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MA or MFA in Studio Art, Art History, Museum Studies, Instructional Design, and/or related fields.
- Background in Studio Art, Art History, Museum Studies and/or related fields.
- Experience maintaining art studio equipment and tools.
- Experience teaching safe studio practices.

Compensation: This .80 FTE position offers a salary of $41,100 to $44,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
*The salary range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors.
