Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Criminal Justice and Legal Department will assist the Graduate Program Director and Department Chair with duties related to the administration of both Graduate and Undergraduate programs. This is a non-teaching Graduate Assistantship.
Essential Duties
- Maintaining databases of both current and former students
- Maintaining graduation records
- Distributing program information to inquirers
- Assisting with all recruitment activities – may require some travel, as well as evening/weekend attendance at conferences
- Updating programs of study and progress records for all current students
- Maintaining advisee lists for primary graduate advisors
- Updating information on graduate programs website
- Gathering information as requested via website/library searches, and direct phone contacts
- Distributing surveys to current and former students, according to preestablished schedule
- Aggregating and summarizing survey data
- Assisting graduate faculty with exhibit booth at professional conferences
- Assisting graduate faculty with revising curriculum and assessment procedures.
- Completing miscellaneous office tasks (e.g., photocopying, writing letters, responding to emails), as requested
Required Qualifications
- Degree seeking graduate student at Missouri Western State University
- Maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA – not on academic probation.
- Enrolled in at least five (5) credit hours per semester
- Accepted into the MWSU Graduate Program for Criminal Justice and Legal Studies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer undergraduate degree or minor in criminal justice or closely related discipline
- Strong interpersonal skills, basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong writing skills
- Strong analytics skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Physical Demands
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Hours of Work
- Must be able to work 10 hours per week. Schedule may vary.
- Desired start date 1/20/2026
- This position will provide the GA a $1250 stipend per semester plus $3750 tuition scholarship per semester
