Graduate Social Policy Adjunct Professor - Helms School of Government

Adjuncts are essential to Liberty University’s mission of Training Champions for Christ. It is expected that an adjunct member models a personal commitment to the goals and values of Liberty University, engage in an active commitment to, and experience of, personal spiritual formation within a biblically informed Christian worldview. Adjuncts should view their teaching, engagement with students, and scholarship as a means to a significant educational end. They should strive to employ a variety of techniques for the development of good learning conditions, view each student as a unique individual, and insofar as it is possible, provide for individual differences, abilities, and interests.

The Graduate Social Policy Adjunct Professor position is considered an Online Adjunct Professor position with the Helms School of Government. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to advising social policy doctoral students on their dissertation and capstone projects, providing substantive feedback on dissertation and capstone projects, administering dissertation and capstone writing courses, mentoring and challenging students to grow intellectually and spiritually, ensuring students follow dissertation and capstone handbook policies, and maintaining/reporting grades and attendance in accordance with university policies. This position will be assigned an Instructional Mentor as director supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications Education

  • PhD, Doctor (other than Juris Doctor), or similar terminal degree from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in Political Science, Politics, Government, Public Policy, Public Policy and Administration, International Relations, Sociology, Philosophy, Political Theory, relevant Research Methodologies, or other related disciplines.

Other Qualifications

  • Publication record in relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated strengths in teaching and mentoring at the graduate level.
  • Appropriate mentoring and interpersonal skills.
  • Organizational skills that facilitate the completion of assignments and tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Familiarity with of Microsoft Office suite and online Learning Management Systems
