Job Summary:
Performs routine to moderately complex accounting with a focus on sponsored programs. Ensure the accurate recording and reporting of a unit's financial transactions.
Job Description:
Account Reconciliation & Financial Oversight
- Reconcile UM and sponsored program accounts monthly to ensure transactions are accurate, allowable, and properly documented
- Monitor expenditures, payroll, and encumbrances to ensure alignment with UM, budget and sponsor restrictions
- Provide budget vs. actual reports and projections to principal investigators (PIs) and unit leadership
- Track cost share, effort commitments, and subawards, escalating discrepancies as needed
Procurement & Transactional Support
- Prior review of all procurement requests for allowability
- Ensure all expenditures are properly allocated and documented for audit-readiness
Post-Award Administration
- Support the submission and tracking of post-award actions, including:
- No-cost extensions
- Rebudgeting requests
- Just-in-Time (JIT) submissions
- Carryforward approvals
- Coordinate with the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) and external sponsors to ensure timely approvals
- Maintain documentation for all changes to award terms and conditions
Compliance & Audit Readiness
- Ensure financial activity complies with sponsor terms and University of Mississippi policies, including federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200)
- Assist in preparing for internal and external audits, ensuring financial records are accurate and accessible
- Stay current with changes in sponsor regulations and advise PIs accordingly
Reporting & Communication
- Maintain regular communication with PIs to ensure budget clarity and to support successful project management
- Contribute to training and outreach for departments and faculty on grant financial processes
Job Responsibilities:
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting grants in a liberal arts or multi-disciplinary college
- Knowledge of University of Mississippi financial systems and grant administration structure
- Certification such as Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA)
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders across departments or disciplines
