Job Summary
Responsible for providing leadership, vision, and strategic direction for a competitive NCAA Division I softball program. Plays a critical role in supporting the academic achievement, athletic performance, and personal development of student-athletes. Oversees all facets of the program, including talent identification and recruitment, practice and game planning, compliance with NCAA regulations, budget and resource management, and supervision of assistant coaches and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Plans and directs the activities of the athletic team
- Provides leadership and strategic direction for the development and success of a nationally competitive NCAA Division I softball program at Kennesaw State University
- Oversees all aspects of program operations, including student-athlete recruitment, training, coaching, and competition planning
- Manages the program's operating budget, including purchasing equipment and uniforms, scheduling games, and practices, and ensuring efficient use of resources
- Ensures academic achievement, retention, and graduation of all student-athletes on the roster by working collaboratively with academic support staff and monitoring individual progress
- Maintains responsibility for fostering an environment that supports the academic and athletic development of student-athletes
- Prepares student-athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally to compete for conference championships and post-season competition
- Supervises and evaluates assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and other support staff as permitted by NCAA and university guidelines
- Organizes and leads structured practices and game-day coaching using sound and current coaching techniques to maximize team and individual performance
- Serves as a visible leader and active participant in department-wide priorities, strategic planning, and university-wide initiatives
- Promotes the program through effective public relations efforts, community outreach, alumni engagement, and fundraising activities
- Ensures full compliance with all NCAA, conference, State of Georgia, and university rules, regulations, and policies, and reports any violations appropriately
- Represents the university and softball program at required university functions, athletics department events, donor engagements, and other institutional activities
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's from an accredited institution of higher education
Other Required Qualifications
Current, valid, and unrestricted driver's license
Current, and valid CPR/AED certification
Required Experience
Four (4) years collegiate and/or professional coaching experience with previous experience in a supervisory role
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Previous coaching experience in a NCAA Division I level program
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related field

Able to effectively recruit, develop, and motivate student-athletes to achieve high levels of athletic performance and academic success
Able to build and maintain positive, professional relationships with student-athletes, coaches, university faculty and staff, alumni, and the broader community
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
Knowledge
Comprehensive knowledge of softball coaching techniques, training strategies, and competitive play at the collegiate level
Strong understanding and demonstrated application of NCAA rules, regulations, and compliance standards
Proven track record of success in coaching within an intercollegiate athletics program, preferably at the NCAA Division I level
Skills
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Skilled in representing the softball program and athletic department in public relations, media appearances, and fundraising activities
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Evidence of successful recruitment of student-athletes
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
