Advertising Summary: The School of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time Research Technician to support ongoing research into chemistry and biology of glycosaminoglycans, especially computational, biophysical, and enzymology of proteins related to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Department Summary: The School of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time Research Technician to support ongoing research into chemistry and biology of glycosaminoglycans, especially computational, biophysical, and enzymology of proteins related to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform enzyme kinetics and thermodynamic affinity experiments
• Perform computational modeling and dynamics experiments
• Perform high-throughput screening experiments
• Organize and maintain laboratory space and inventory
• Write up experiments, compile notebook and maintain a log of experiments and results
• Availability to work weekends as needed

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s of Science or equivalent degree or experience in medicinal chemistry or related field
• Previous laboratory experience, particularly in biochemistry/computational chemistry and/or laboratory maintenance or management
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
• Interest or experience in glycosaminoglycans chemistry and biochemistry
• Self-motivated
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in handling glycosaminoglycans, proteins, molecular modeling, enzyme kinetics, and thermodynamics of binding.

Salary Range: $25.00 per hour
