HR Officer (secondment cover), School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography (SAME), Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6PE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an organised HR Officer to join a busy and friendly team within the School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography (SAME).
This role is covering for the current HR Officer who has been seconded to another University department for 12 months. This role is an integral part of the School, supporting the delivery of an efficient and professional HR service to all stakeholders. You will make a difference to the exceptional research and teaching our staff deliver by being part of our supportive and reliable professional team.
The role
This is an excellent opportunity for a well organised professional to get involved in all aspects of HR, taking responsibility for a wide range of activity, from recruitment, through payroll preparation and personnel record-keeping, to employment contracts. You will work closely with the Deputy Head of Administration and Finance (HR & Projects), however your pivotal role means that you will ultimately work with most members of the administrative team and academic staff. You will also be expected to liaise regularly with the wider University, including with HR support functions across the University.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Monday 23rd February 2026. We expect to conduct interviews in the week commencing 2nd March 2026.
You will be based in 51-53 Banbury Road, Oxford. The department offers some remote working and you will be able to agree a pattern with your line manager.
This is a 12-month cover post ideally starting from 23rd March 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter to allow for some handover, until end of March 2027. This post is offered full-time but we will consider applicants wishing to work at 0.8 FTE. Please state this in your application. We welcome applications from staff currently in the University who would be interested in undertaking the role as a secondment.
About you
You will have experience of HR administration; excellent interpersonal and organisational skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels; well-developed IT skills; accuracy and a high level of attention to detail; the ability to manage your own workload and work effectively as part of a team or independently.
