Information Technology Architect

Job Summary

Information Technology Architects design and oversee the architecture of Information Technology systems to ensure alignment with business goals and technological standards. They define system structures, integration points, and technology frameworks to support scalability, security, and efficiency.

The IT Architect is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within ServiceNow. This role ensures the CMDB accurately represents the organization's IT infrastructure and enables reliable, data-driven decisions that enhance IT service delivery. The IT Architect collaborates with stakeholders across IT to maintain the integrity, automation, and usability of CMDB data and to support ITSM and ITOM processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement Information Technology system architectures, frameworks, and solutions to meet business requirements.
• Define system design principles, standards, and best practices to guide system development and deployment.
• Evaluate system technologies, tools, and platforms to recommend optimal system designs and implementations.
• Conduct system assessments, architecture reviews, and performance tuning to optimize system performance.
• Lead system design workshops, technical discussions, and architectural decisions with development teams.
• Establish system governance, compliance, and security measures to ensure system integrity and quality.
• Mentor, coach, and train system developers, engineers, and architects on system architecture principles.
• Stay informed about system architecture trends, emerging technologies, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, project managers, and Information Technology teams to align system architecture with business objectives.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required.

Other Required Qualifications

Overnight travel required for project delivery; flexibility in on-site daily service delivery hours.

Required Experience

Six or more years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC). Master's Degree. ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA). ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist CMDB or ITSM. ITIL Foundation v3 or v4.

Preferred Experience: Implementing or optimizing ServiceNow Discovery or Service Mapping. Managing large-scale CMDBs with thousands of configuration items. Working in higher education, public sector, or complex enterprise environments. Deep CMDB expertise (proven experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining a large-scale ServiceNow CMDB (100k+ CIs, multiple data sources, ongoing reconciliation)). Advanced discovery knowledge (hands on experience with ServiceNow Discovery and Service Mapping). Reconciliation & normalization mastery (strong experience configuring identification and reconciliation (IRE) rules and data normalization rules to ensure data integrity). Integration architecture (Ability to architect and implement integrations between CMDB and external systems, such as SCCM, cloud providers, vendor feeds).

Proposed Salary

Salary based on experience: 122,500

Knowledge

Knowledge of work flow process documentation and analysis. Strong understanding of the ServiceNow platform, especially the CMDB module. Familiarity with ITIL framework and ITSM processes. Knowledge of automated discovery tools and integration techniques.

Strong technical skills, including experience with ServiceNow CMDB and ITIL. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on delivering solutions to complex problems. Experience in data analysis and process design. Experience in a higher education environment is a plus. CMDB design and optimization. Data normalization and quality assurance techniques. Effective communication, training, and stakeholder engagement. Technical documentation and system architecture planning.
