Salary Range: Up to $45,000-$53,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours: up to 40 hours per week, non-exempt.

Essential Functions
Job Summary
Support the School of Art and Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) with supervision and management of ceramic and sculpture studios/facilities on Southwest Campus (Santikos & McAllister buildings).
Core Responsibilities
Both levels
- Supervises and maintains the Sculpture facilities at UTSA Southwest Campus with a detail-oriented and proactive approach.
- Have excellent mechanical skills and ability to problem-solve, repair, and maintain power tools and equipment related to woodworking and welding.
- Have a proactive approach to maintaining an organized, safe, clean, and friendly studio learning environment.
- Develops, establishes, and implements safety training and procedures and keeps records.
- Trains and supervises students in the safe and proper use of tools and facilities.
- Maintains Safety Data Sheets for Sculpture studio/facilities.
- Maintains studio inventories and purchase studio supplies.
- Have the ability and or willingness to learn to safely operate a forklift.
- Reports problems according to normal procedures and standards, and report to appropriate offices or departments.
- Have excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and personnel. Participate in department meetings, and communicate with other campus personnel, including Facilities, Risk and Emergency Management, Central Receiving, Custodial Services, and Security Services.
- Abides by all university policies.
- Position requires attention to studio chemicals, equipment and use.
- Equipment and hardware maintenance and replacement with continued functionality and compliance with risk, occupational health, and environmental safety policies, rules, and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Level II
- Three (3) years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of equipment used in the field of specialization.
Level III
- Four (4) years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of equipment used in the field of specialization.
Both levels
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver's license and automobile.
- Demonstrated experience working with and maintaining a variety of power tools and machines related to woodworking and welding.
- Demonstrated experience working with public-facing clients or students.
- This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
Both levels
- MFA degree with an emphasis in sculpture.
- Demonstrated experience working as a technician in a sculpture, wood, metal and/or fabrication shop, preferably in an academic environment.
- Demonstrated experience working with, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of metal and wood fabrication equipment.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Both levels
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with various groups of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of campus and department mission.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of studio health and safety regulations, and best practices, including, an in-depth knowledge of safe working practices for a range of traditional and experimental/unconventional sculptural methods/materials.
- Understanding of 3-D studio processes and the ability to work safely with, and demonstrate properly the use of, a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and machinery.
- Proficiency with any of the following will be considered an asset: woodworking, metalworking, furniture making, construction techniques, mechanics, environmentally friendly materials and processes, and digital fabrication processes.

Working Conditions
- UTSA Southwest Campus (Santikos & McAllister buildings).
- May be required to travel to Main Campus Art facilities as needed.
- Dependent upon position conditions working conditions vary to include: high heat and dust (ceramics); poisonous fumes, hot materials, intense light, and confined spaces (welding); noise, sawdust, and vapors associated with finishing/stripping chemicals (woodworking), in addition to long periods of standing and stooping. Work can be both indoors (classroom or lab) or within a craft shop.
- Possible hazards exist with use of various woodworking, welding, and foundry-type equipment.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move and maneuver up to 50 lbs.
This position will be primarily located on UTSA Southwest campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
