"Infrastructure Automation Engineer (Devops)"

The Infrastructure Automation Engineer (DevOps) will design, implement, and manage automation workflows to improve the performance, security, and reliability of the University’s IT infrastructure. This includes scripting and automation across Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD (Entra ID), Microsoft 365, Azure services, and virtualisation technologies. The role also supports endpoint and server lifecycle management using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM/MECM) and, where appropriate, Intune in a co-management model.

You will help manage core infrastructure services such as DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft IPAM, while embedding DevOps methodologies into IT processes to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

The postholder will play a key role in infrastructure and automation projects that support the University’s strategic IT goals. This involves working with project managers, senior administrators, and stakeholders to assess and implement new technologies. Responsibilities include modernising builds and deployments (e.g., SCCM task sequences, Autopilot/Intune), monitoring performance, and optimising systems for scalability, reliability, and compliance. The role also requires producing and maintaining accurate technical documentation, automation workflows, configurations, and compliance reports.

The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting, strong knowledge of SCCM/MECM and Azure infrastructure, and a sound understanding of DevOps principles. The role demands strong organisational skills, the ability to manage priorities, and effectiveness within a large, complex IT environment.
